America West Airlines today unveiled its "new-look" cockpit, featuring several "enhancements" to make the "cockpit experience more enjoyable." Especially notable are the new, more familiar throttle and flap controls, making them more in line with the style pilots are accustomed to.

Guy who did this is a pilot and an old high-school chum of mine. He says "distribute freely."

I heartily encourage all America West passengers to print out this photo in color and covertly drop copies at strategic places on the aircraft in which they are incarcerated....

It would be fun if you could get them in all the seat-back pockets next to the inflight magazine.

But, where are the cup holders?
(This one almost got me fired just now. I was laughing like a loon and my boss came over to see what was so funny).

"(This one almost got me fired just now. I was laughing like a loon and my boss came over to see what was so funny)." Uh-oh. Look for a tightening of the ol' company firewall in the next coupla days. Seriously, tell yer boss to "lite-n up."

Hmmm! I guess that next week while I'm traveling from BWI to Las Vegas I may need help getting off.......assuming the passengers can help themselves...

My boss is a potential Freeper - I continue to try to browbeat him into trying this. But, he's pretty firm on the "no levity during working hours" rule ;)

It would be fun if you could get them in all the seat-back pockets next to the inflight magazine. I worked for 7 months 'detailing' airplanes (It was really just janitor work with a fancy title.) and I was dying to print up a bunch of FreeRepublic cards and put them in all the seat pockets as I restocked safety cards, barf bags and the in-flight mags. I would have gotten fired for sure. If I had I realized that I was going to resign on my own when I did, I would have done so anyway.

"distribute freely." I have. Your friend is a riot, his picture is great. Thanks for the funny!

According to
The Design/Psychology of Everyday Things, workers at a nuclear plant installed beer-tapper handles on many of the formerly-identical handles. If a worker was watching one display while reaching over to pull a certain handle, pulling the wrong handle might have serious consequences. Because the tappers are all different shapes and sizes, however, the worker can tell by feel if he's grasped the wrong handle.
