[history]
Ibis Tek's "Viper" supports a 50-caliber machine gun or 40mm grenade launcher (sold separately).
BUTLER, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The sport utility vehicle that rolls out of the Ibis Tek shop looks just like those driven by millions of soccer moms.

They say SUV's are like tanks on four wheels. Now they've finally made one that works like a tank, too.

Their web site

Interesting videos. Live firing.

Oh... my... God.
I would trade in both my cars for that.
Unfortunately at a cool 1/2 million $ I don't think Santa will leave me one this year.

Sales of the vehicles are strictly regulated by the State Department ......................The heck you say ?:o)
DOE has had versions of the Viper Soccer Sub for decades. First one I saw was at their CTA facility in Albuquerque in early 80's. Upgrades in place currently. Great for internal security at secure facilities, but a real pig on the open road.......
Maybe the new ones have been "corrected" for such handling problems with lighter modern ballistic protection.
Stay Safe !

Imagine driving down 440 in one of these!! No more minivansI get this picture of you speeding along at about 90, playing "Ride of the Valkyries" a la Apocalypse Now, minivans running off the road in terror.

I'm in the Army Guard, and I would love to trade my HMMWV for one of these!

The DOD and several other government agencies have indeed had these for years but this is the civilian export model.
I do think they would help out with some of the traffic jams up here in the people's republic of Connecticut.

LOL!! Little ol' me? Never!! Now maybe with a little Iron Maiden it's a possibility

I think the Somalis had a better and cheaper idea. Just mount a .50 on the back of a POS Toyota with a couple of RPG's for comfort.
Where this company is missing out on a good military contract is using the firing unit as a replacement for a machine gun nest. Our guys at the Kandahar Airport are using the same dig and hide technology that's been around for the last 300 years. A military camp should look like a battleship with prefab, hardened gun implacements. Just get a frontloader to dig down to install the unit with the machinegun at the top, level with the ground and the operator under the gun below the ground level. Running a .50 BMG or Mark 19 beltfed grenade launcher should be as safe as playing a video game.
What this unit needs from what I can tell at the moment is shielding for the axis motors.

The soundtrack for "Conan, the Barbarian" is still popular.
I wore out two tapes and then bought the CD. It's now on my harddrive.
I noticed that when they ran the trailors for "Gladiator" before the movie came out, they used the music from "Conan".
