Here's the story as I see it:

Saddam is the author of 9/11. The anthrax threat is meant to deter Bush from pointing the finger and hitting him back.

Saddam has the initiative here. We have no defense against the anthrax, so Bush elected to stall, to buy enough time to come up with a plan and change the balance of forces. Of necessity, that implied setting up a sham investigation into the "mystery" of the anthrax. This investigation was targeted at our own biodefense establishment, where it could spin its wheels uselessly for months on end without causing any harm. They christened this Potemkin probe "Amerithrax." That was a nice marketing touch, don't you think?

FBI Director Mueller assigned a couple of none-too-bright brown-nosers to pursue a "lone right-wing nut" theory, knowing full-well he was launching them on a wild-goose chase. Lately, the useful idiots at Amerithrax have gotten a bit carried away with the theories of Barbara Rosenberg, left-wing activist and self-appointed useful idiot. But that's also useful, because Bush is gearing up to point the finger at Saddam, so a public discrediting of the "lone nut" theory is just what the doctor ordered right now.

I think you will find this theory fits perfectly with everything that has transpired over the past ten months. I also think that, if you review the Amerithrax web site, you will agree that it does not remotely resemble anything you'd expect of a sophisticated, multi-million dollar investigation into potentially the most deadly threat ever faced by the American people. It actually looks just like a cardboard stage prop. Amerithrax is two men and a dog, and maybe they hired a high school kid to put up the web page. Check it out. Amerithrax is a fake, a fraud and a ruse.

That and the fact that the guy passed his lie detector test right off the bat and there never was one shred of evidence he had anything to do with the anthrax attack.

The no evidence part I agree with, unless there is something more here known to some of the FBI agents too competent and decent to leak.

I do take exception to the lie detector. Here is a slightly humorous web page to put one in the right frame of mind about that nonsense:

How To Sting The Polygraph

Warning: The above web site may be, for all I know, a fake. But so is the polygraph.

The media is doing what they always do! They are pursuing the leftist agenda!

\ And using conservative terminology. A High-Tech Lynching, Clearance Thomas used this term, during his supreme court confirmation hearing, referring to the democrat racist in the senate.

(Note that the FBI leaked the "bio-terror novel" red herring to reporter Rebecca Cooper, at ABC's Washington affiliate, WJLA. Cooper, the former lover of then-Rep. Gary Condit, had provided Condit's initial alibi for the time when Chandra Levy disappeared. Later, it turned out that Cooper had gotten her days wrong.)

Cooper reported, "This novel written by Steven Hatfill envisions a biological attack on Congress. It's an attack so deadly that not only do members of Congress and congressional aides become ill, but hundreds of Washington residents become ill and many die as a result."

Given Cooper's congressional connections, isn't it more likely that this leak came from a congressional source?

The newest leak, is the claim that Hatfill was in London last November, at the same time that an anthrax hoax letter was sent to Sen. Tom Daschle.

First I've heard of this hoax letter from London. Has this news been revealed before?

Like the lefties pointing out minor inconsistencies in Ann Coulter's book Slander to debunk the whole book, I submit:

In Leave it to Beaver, the title character lives in Greendale.

The Cleavers live in Mayfield. Oops

BTTT :-)

Pardon, but Oswald shot a president, and a cop, and was a sniveling, wife beating peice of commie clymer kissing leftist scum. Please don't compare him to a man who may well be completely innocent!

Er, it was ALLEGED that Oswald did all that. He never went to trial, and there ARE witnesses who saw him buying a can of soda at the time Kennedy was assasinated. In fact, you are aware that Oswald worked for the CIA distributing leaflets in Miami, right? That I believe has been ascertained. In any case, how else would you explain the fact that he "defected" to the USSR while an active duty Marine, married a Russian bride, then was allowed to come back to the US AND given $20,000 by the State Department upon his return? There's obviously a voluminous amount of material concerning the JFK assasination and the facts revolving around Oswald. The more you look at it, the more it becomes painfully apparent that Oswald WAS setup and there WAS a conspiracy to terminate JFK's presidency and life.

That is EXACTLY what I meant when I wrote my comment concerning this case, where Hatfill is being "setup" in a similar fashion. His accusers are the media, and his jury is the public who never question what the media writes..

We COULD argue back and forth for several days as to whether there is any merit to any of the so-called facts concering the JFK assasination, but I really think that would be pointless, as people have argued this subject for decades, and those whose mind are made up that Oswald shot Kennedy will never think otherwise, no matter what facts are presented.

Dare I suggest a #4......the man is guilty.

At least in the public domain, there is no evidence for this whatsoever.

Based on what we DO know, the evidence is strongly in favor of his innocense.

1. It would take $1 million worth of equipment and materials to make weapons grade anthrax. Hatfill does not have the money. Likewise, Hatfill could not have hidden the evidence if he somehow got the money and set up shop anyway.

2. If he somehow stole it, the spores would have had different size and anti-static coating characteristics than the actual powder used.

3. The attack in Florida is completely inconsistent with the other attacks if the attacker was Hatfill. However, especially since American Media had just run a very unflattering piece on Osama Bin Laden, an Islamic attacker (Atta) makes perfect sense.

4. There is a lot of publicly available information, and it all supports a radical Islamic attacker (Atta, getting it from somewhere else).

5. A very plausible, but not publicly proven, scenario is that Saddam was/is the ultimate source of the anthrax. Even the wording in the letters makes it clear that they are intended as a warning, not an attack. Used differently, even the small amount of anthrax used in the letters could have killed many more people.

6. Applying Occam's razor, the attack was exactly what it looked like: A warning. Who would feel the need to issue a warning? Saddam.

7. Applying common sense and a minimal amount of strategic thinking: There is more anthrax available to attack us with. Whenever we move against Iraq, we had better be ready for the consequences here at home.

To sum up: On balance, just based on common sense and what is publicly known, it seems very unlikely Hatfill is guilty of anything more than a (possibly) inflated resume.

Okay, your common sense tells you there is NO chance this man is guilty based on your expertise and analysis of the known information. AMAZING!

mainstream media these days does not have the patience to do the research for a well thought out article. it is much easier to report rumors and innuendos and carville snippets than it is to get to the truth.

i do not think that the fbi is making a mistake. i strongly suspect that it is following a plethora of leads that we are not aware of. the media, for all the reasons noted above, are picking on one lead in the massive thread of leaves.

"I wonder whose running the FBI? Obviously someone who thinks this Rosenberg twit is a person of authority."

My sense is that Rosenberg has clout with Daschle and Leahy. And that the media worships her.

I don't know whether the FBI has any respect for her opinion. But, under the circumstances, they might believe they have to humor her.

Her agenda is quite clear. To force the US into signing the UN's Anti-Biological Warfare treaty, apparently by implicating the military/intelligence community responsible for our defense against biowarfare.

From the above links, it actually sounds to me like this woman is getting "two for the price of one". In addition to what you correctly stated, it sounds like she also has a personal grudge against this Hatfill guy for his earlier battles in Africa against Robert Mugabe's guerillas.

"...it sounds like she also has a personal grudge against this Hatfill guy for his earlier battles in Africa against Robert Mugabe's guerillas."

Hatfill's experiences in Africa certainly make it easier for leftists to hate him.

There is another angle, too. Simultaneous with the insurgency in then-Rhodesia, an outbreak of anthrax occurred among the cattle belonging to (mostly) black farmers. An estimated 10,000 black farmers were also infected with cutaneous anthrax, resulting in 182 recorded deaths.

A close associate of Rosenberg's, Meryl Nass, wrote a scholarly article on the epidemiology of the anthrax and, without any evidence whatsoever, attributed the outbreak to biological warfare -- by the white government, against the blacks.

Presumably, Rosenberg believes that Hatfill was somehow involved in this affair, as well.

I said "very unlikely", not "NO chance". Without inside information no one can say "NO chance", and maybe not even then. Next time try reading the post.

While you're at it, you might try contributing something other than snide remarks. If you disagree with something, explain why. If you have new information to contribute, do so.

If you are informed and can think for yourself, you might even try contributing an opinion, along with an explanation why. That's what this forum is all about.

Otherwise you are just burning up bandwidth.

Sounds like the "six degrees of separation" theory of Greendale. Using this method, the media could tie just about anyone they wanted to a Greendale or Greendale School.

i do not think that the fbi is making a mistake...

Interesting that in other cases where the feds are harassing people without public evidence or formal charges (the Arab prof in south Florida, the Chicago guy accused of plotting a dirty bomb), the lefties are having fits. Odd that when a right-winger (is this correct?) is in the barrel, the left joins the gang rape with enthusium.
