O'Reilly is very disappointing on the homo-promo issue. He's so wishy-washy, it's pathetic. I've noticed the same tendency in other hosts, particularly in talk-radio, to go 'soft' on the homosexual issue -- even when it's diametrically opposed to their positions on every other issue. I suspect this is because they're afraid of getting Dr. Laura'd or losing their jobs outright. There are a lot of homos in high places in the print and broadcast media and the label 'homophobic' is the kiss of death.
Of course, it has nothing to do with ratings -- As far as I know, Dr. Laura was getting good ratings in Philadelphia when they booted her off the air. Then there was the Phil Valentine episode. Phil lost his job in Philadelphia when he was #2 in his time slot behind Howard Stern in the mid-1990s. Why? No one knows for sure, but it was shortly after he took a very strong stand against "domestic partnerships" gaining legal status in Philadelphia.
