Brothel to Put Lawmaker to Work for a Day Tue Aug 27, 8:29 AM ET
SYDNEY (Reuters) - A conservative Australian national politician may have to spend a day cleaning a brothel in the Western Australian gold fields after its madam won him for a day.
Workers at the famous Langtree's brothel in the mining town of Kalgoorlie said Tuesday that madam Mary-Anne Kenworthy outbid all others in a Rotary Club raffle for a day's worth of work from Liberal party member of parliament Barry Haase.
"She bid A$1,000 ($540)," said a receptionist. "(She'll get him) cleaning and doing tours, driving the limo."
Haase, a member of Prime Minister John Howard's party, was unruffled.
"You can't be half-hearted about fundraising for significant charities and I think I'm big enough to play the game," he told Reuters.
Kenworthy told the Australian Broadcasting Corp she looked forward to seeing Haase decked out in a frilly apron.
"He'd see that not all brothels are dirty and I think I will have the most fun teaching him how to massage," she said.
But Haase said he actually expected to spend more time helping Kenworthy on a community service sex education show on Perth television, and was proud that he had contributed to some A$50,000 raised by the Rotary Club for charity work.
