Five bucks says Lisa Tinker is gay herself, and a letter-writer for GLAAD.

Tinker's letter trashing Reisman's work as regurgitated Paul Cameron doesn't square with Reisman's footnoted papers on e.g. monster pederast-sadomasochist Alfred Kinsey.

Reisman makes several statements in her article just linked to the effect that she has had a tough time from the American Psychiatric Association, which was rolled by the gay community working through gay psychiatrists in 1973. By the way, there are no fewer than three "APA" organizations in the psychological sciences: The American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Psychoanalytical Association. All have websites. Good luck telling them apart.

Now that you know what gay-friendly science has to say about the storming of the APA, here is another account. This article is a Charles Socarides review of a 1999 NARTH reprint of a 1987 article contributed to the book "Scientific Controversies: Case Studies" [shortened title] by Irving Bieber, who was a dissenting participant in the 1973 debate and who had, when APA fell, previously completed a longitudinal study of "reparative therapy" rates among homosexuals during the 1950's and 1960's. Bieber's work had suggested psychological components to homosexuality that, in about 25% of his study patients, had allowed him to show progress in "curing" homosexuality through psychotherapy.

Meanwhile, after the fall of APA and DSM-II, numbers of psychiatrists and psychologists of the older generation, who haven't been purged and purified in school by the PC Police, have continued to agree with Bieber on a psychological component to homosexuality. There used to be a survey of the opinions of mental-health professionals concerning the etiology of homosexuality here:

but surprise, surprise, it's been taken down. Just coincidentally, of course, it showed that the New Truth about "gay essentialism" (i.e., if you're gay, you're gay) had achieved a whole lot less acceptance in the scientific community than the noisy, PC committees of APA would like us to know about.
