Ice-T 'cop killer' rapper, spokesman for The Learning Channel?

Posted on 09/18/2002 8:44:43 AM PDT by RolandBurnam

I was watching TV last night, and as I surfed past the 'Learning Channel' I saw their new spokesman for an upcoming show was none other than the rapper, Ice-T.

Ice-T was the rapper whose song, "cop killer" ignited a firestorm of controversy a few years ago. What is this thug doing as the spokesman for a formerly decent channel like TLC? What do you freepers think?

I saw Ice-T on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, playing a cop a few months ago, that just made me laugh. I think he might be a regular on that show, but I don't watch it enough to know.

More recently, I saw him on MTV cribs showing off his house, and apperently he likes to film in the bedroom and use feathers and whips.

I think he's pretty much a joke at this point. Must be alot of fun being the "Original Gansta" living in a gated community :)

I have noticed that there has been a concerted effort in the entertainment industry to legitimize rappers. Notice how many are given roles in movies now. None have had any prior acting experience, other than giving some sob story to a judge. And, a lot of them use their guns more than the average NRA member.

Not sure...However, I do think that most people can show change over the years...maybe he's grown up and seen the light of education and living versus gangstas and dying.

He's a professional entertainer who will go anywhere the money is.

Obviously a syndicated prime-time tv show pays better than gangsta' rap.

He'll say whatever he thinks pays the best....kinda' like politicians.

I don't think he ever was a gangsta, at least not like a certain Mr. Shakur. He is now one of the "beautiful people"(sarcasm intended), just like his contemporary Ice Cube. I fully expect to see him showing off his house in the next In Style magazine.

Well, he is not a spokesperson for TLC, he is co-executive producer for a program "Beyond Tough" that is going to be on TLC. Write to: letters@discovery.com

He played a regular character as a detective. He was actual really good in it too. I was just mentioning to my wife the other night that there was a lot of irony there. He's been in a few movies, too.

I agree and like the role he plays in that show. I also thought he apologized later about his rap song regarding cops!!

Can people change, Paul?

Hmmm...?

You can't begin to imagine what I was like 10 years ago. But look at me now.

Again, can people change?

He's been in a few movies, too.

He was in Ricochet with Denzel Washington. He was actually pretty good in it.

That still doesn't negate the fact that indeed he is a gangsta thug, IMHO.

Well according to VH1 Behind the Music, Ice-T was a pimp in high school, and he talked about it openly. Maybe he was never in a gang, but he definately used to be a law breaker.

I think you might want to give Ice-T a break. He seems to be a pretty good guy now and one of the better actors on the Law & Order shows. At least he's not Vincent Dinofrio (or whatever Pyle's real name is), also on L&O, who probably wants to be forgotten for his 'wonderful' choice of roles in 'Full Metal Jacket'. It could be worse.

I think Ice-T has changed and the few interviews I've seen of him, he seems to have his head on straight now

I like Ice Cube better than Ice T ...although I like ice cubes in my ice tea. Cube is pretty funny and I like his movies. His newest "Barbershop" is very good.
