Trees are part of the Green Religion!

At a local government meeting a couple of years ago (a site-plan review for some commercial development) a young man spoke up on the subject. Identifying himself as a graduate student in forestry, he told the board that this particular piece of property was the ONLY regenerating forest in the state of Pennsylvania. He also said if we don't adopt a stringent tree ordinance real soon, all the trees would be gone.

I was speechless, especially since I see the forest trying to regenerate in my back yard every time I weed the flowerbeds! Could he really have been a graduate student in forestry and actually make a statment like that? I had heard that there was more forest now than at the turn of the century, but this article will arm me with more facts in case he ever speaks up again.

Sure he could. A degree doesn't mean he actually knows what he's talking about and it doesn't mean he's going to tell the truth.
