DESIGN CALIFORNIA'S QUARTER
www.ca.gov ^ | September, 2002 | Dr. Kevin Starr

Posted on 09/23/2002 2:53:40 AM PDT by American Preservative

>>>Design California's Quarter <<<

As part of the Fifty State Commemorative Coin Program, The United States Mint will issue the California quarter in January 2005. States are honored in the order in which they ratified the Constitution and joined the Union. California was admitted to the Union on September 9, 1850 and will be the 31st state to release its commemorative quarter.

It is with great pleasure that the Governor extends the honor of designing an enduring impression of our state to the people of California. The Governor encourages California-inspired ideas that will capture the heart of our state as well as its diverse culture. In honor of this momentous program, twenty semifinalist designs will be put on display in 2003 to acknowledge the public's contributions. The Governor will announce the final five designs in January of 2003 to give recognition to those who participated in the design process.

"...Maybe a basket of fruits and nuts?..."

How about a prostitute and a communist saluting each other?

They could be posed on opposite sides of the coin in front of a geometric mosaic pattern inspired by the molecular structure of the AIDS virus.

I'm thinking of Lady Liberty bent over, and Gray Davis standing immediately behind her with an evil leer on his face.

A replica of the Emerald Castle from the Wizard of Oz under a red star with a profile of Barbra Streisand superimposed. The quarter would have to be oblong, though.

A nice hammer and sickle one one side to represent the redistributive policies of the Kalifornia government, and a swastika on the other to represent the intrusive nature of the government

- A grown man fondling a young boy.
- An SUV inside a red circle with a diagonal slash through it.

It must proudly show the flag of Mexico and all words stamped into the coin should be in Spanish. Remove the likeness of Washington and use that of Vicente Fox. How about also including an LA street gang engaged in a gun battle?

-A priestess of the Goddess with bare breasts and serpents entwined about her arms holding a pentagram in one hand and a condom in the other.
Above her head a banner unfurled and emblazoned with these words: The Goddess is Alive and Magick is Afoot!
At her left side her faithful companion, a chihuahua, and at her right side a power totem, the spotted owl.
Beneath her feet, symbols of her vanquished foes (i.e., cigarettes, light bulbs, the cross, a handgun)....
