Legislature Creates Large Tax Hike
Carolina Journal ^ | September 23, 2002 | John Locke Foundation

RALEIGH — Gov. Mike Easley and the state legislature have approved a revised budget for the current fiscal year that will likely result in hundreds of millions of dollars in new taxes on North Carolina businesses and families, further damaging an already weakened state economy, according to a preliminary analysis by the John Locke Foundation.

John Hood, chairman and president of the Raleigh-based think tank, observed that the new budget directly raises the state tax burden by approximately $157 million, largely through changes in business taxes and the elimination of previously scheduled tax cuts that had been designed to help families offset the impact of last year's $700 million increase in sales and income taxes.

Coming from Pennsylvania to North Carolina really shocked me. You hear people all over this board talk about how Conservative the South is and how terrible the North is.

Pennsylvania had far fewer taxes, Much tougher Abortion Laws, and much less strict Gun Laws.

I am sick of these Southern Democrat IDIOTS!!! Who pull the Democrat Lever over and over because they can't get over the fact that they were beaten by the North Over 150 years ago in the Civil War.

GET OVER IT!!!! THE DEMONRATS OF TODAY Are NOT the DEMOCRATS of the 1800's.

They lie, cheat, steal, raise your taxes, take your guns, abort innocent children, promote homosexuality and destroy our nation.

STOP VOTING FOR THEM!!!!

Yes they are. Just substitute money chains instead of iron. They will feed you, cloth you, heat your humble abode. make you dependant upon the Government "Master" instead. Remember "a Rose by any other name is still a Rose".

No such thing as a tax on business. Corporate taxes are a cost of doing business, like every other expense. If a business cannot compete, they either go bankrupt or transfer their operations overseas. Our government loves world trade.

IT's sure does which is why we in Tennessee had a little Tea Party for the past few years. We bounced FOUR incumbents who voted for the income tax in the August primary, 2 were GOP and we will get a few more come Nov :-) Strange our little revolt up at Nashville had an amazing effect on local property tax hikes too...most ALL went down in flames.

Voters like to be fooled. The dems say that "big business" has to pay their fair share. Tax them out of business or overseas, then the voters wonder where their jobs went.

"In addition, Hood said that the confiscation of $333.4 million in tax reimbursements to local governments will likely lead to tens of millions of dollars in property tax increases at the local level over the next year. A prior Locke Foundation report estimated that cities and counties had already raised their property taxes by a combined $75 million in 2002-03, citing the impact of withheld tax sharing and reimbursement dollars, with other localities still facing the need to adjust their budgets to meet the latest fiscal challenge from the state."

That ought to make lots of friends at the county & muni level.
