Some of the computer answers seem like they're coming from people who do things the hard way. For example use Notepad to cut and paste text from .dbx (outlook email) files.

I used the service a few weeks ago and was very satisfied with the speed and accuracy of the response.

Good luck searching through a big dbx file to find what you want. Outlook Express does a better job. Only problem is between versions 4 and 5 there is some incompatability when you want to transfer them. 4 will transfer (import) to 5 but not the other way around.

How do these search engines work? Karen (my wife), and I have our BulletBras.net site and we don't get too much action on the internet. Can we do something that would improve business? We are working on better content, but I don't think we're getting the traffic from the searches. Regards, Mark and Karen Davis

I'm not recommending searching using Notepad (especially since I use emacs on Windows). I was just pointing out that the paid answer was to do it the hard way.

I went to the search engines and asked to have my
site listed. They checked it out, and I am listed
on Google and all the majors.

Search engines basically a series of indexed pages that are submitted by webmasters and catagorizes your site by its content. Once you submit your pages to a search engine your site will be visited by a "spider" which will use a proprietary algorithm that reads the HTML and other code that comprises your site.

There is a myriad of things that you need to do to get good search engine placement. First make sure that you are listed with all of the major search engines. In addition to Google, there is also Yahoo, Open Directory, Netscape, MSN, Lycos, LookSmart, Inktomi, HotBot, AskJeeves, AOL, Alta Vista and Alltheweb. These make up the vast majority of all searces done here in the States. There are more but they usually get their results from these companies. Make sure you submit to all of them, they all have some form of free submission service. Next make sure that your web pages themselves are optimized for the search engines. This involves well written HTML titles, descriptions and metatags. Make sure that you don't use too many meta tags or an inordinately long description or you will have trouble with some search engines. Only use words that people actually search on and disregard the rest. Finally, make sure that your index page has plenty of descriptive text and titles that are pertinent to your site. It also doesn't hurt to have other pages linked to your site so network if possible. Things not to do include keyword stuffing, same color background and text and avoid Flash at all costs because search engines cannot read flash pages. Always resubmit your page after you make changes. Lastly if you interested in optimizing your page, visit www.searchenginewatch.com

Hope that helps. GG

When doing research, I go to ALL EXPERTS. The service is free, and volunteer experts on every subject under the sun will answer queries. I once had a need to find out where Wild Bill Hickok's matching pair of 1851 Navy Colts resided. I found out through All Experts. Now, where else could I have found that information?

On All Experts there are categories to choose from, but you can also use their search function at the top of the page.

Well, I couldn't find you on Google or Yahoo using "bullet bra" as my search terms. Looks like your product may appeal to the transgendered set, the pop-star fans (one hit mentioned Britney Spears) movie fans (Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Peggy Sue Got Married), retro buffs, fantasy/fetish...

My suggestion is to search for your own product and see what type of sites these link to and where your competition advertises and try to repeat their methods. Obviously, if you can find your competition and not yourself, something is not working. I recently discovered this website The Little Website That Could that describes in an e-book how one man has made a successful net business through trial and error. Could save you some trouble to find out how others have done what you're trying to do.

Do you really want to learn????

Don't take ANYONE else's advice. Yesterday's sage advice on the web is today's disaster. That said, get off AOL, lol.

Okay, if you want to learn, take a course at your local Community College on Internet marketing. You CAN make money on the web...but, there is much to learn.

A few books to read if you've no time for a course:

Business to Business Internet Marketing - by Silverstein ISBN# 1-885068-72-7

Homepage Usability - by Neilsen & Tahir ISBN# 0-7357-1102-X

Mastering The Web - ISBN# 1-58676-064-5

All of these should be easily found on amazon.com.

Best,

d

Why, I went to google and found it here .
I will admit, it looks like this is YOUR question and answer.

Well, coincidence of coincidences! That in fact, is one of my web sites. Google may have led you to the answer, but that answer wouldn't have been there if I hadn't first gotten that information from an expert in 19th century arms at ALL EXPERTS
