Czechs lose key Al Qaida intelligence source

The intelligence war against terrorism suffered a setback recently when a press disclosure in the Czech Republic led to the loss of an agent inside or close to the Al Qaida terrorist group, according to intelligence sources.

As part of an investigation of corruption within the Czech military intelligence service, a list of agents was disclosed to the press in early September.

One source attributed the leak to “sensationalistic” press outlets in Prague that published the list without regard for national security.

The Czech military intelligence service had been successful in penetrating Al Qaida based on its past agent work in the Arab world, according to the sources. One source said at least one person with links to Al Qaida was providing information to the Czech government. But that agent had been lost, the source said.

The Czech Republic is a NATO member and had been providing intelligence on Al Qaida to the United States.

The Czech military intelligence service had been successful in recruiting agents among Arab students who have studied at Czech universities and from among businessmen from the Middle East who travel frequently to the Czech republic.

Could all the denials about Atta meeting al Ani in Prague have been meant to protect this source?

Every congress critter who complains about this administration not sharing intelligence information should receive this story. But then every one of them has been briefed on the importance of not leaking classified information anyway and the leaks from venal types continues.

It's refreshing to know the press is biased in other countries also.

One source said at least one person with links to Al Qaida was providing information to the Czech government. But that agent had been lost, the source said.

What does that mean? Is this their simpleton way of saying he's been KILLED?"Lost" is pretty vague. "I lost my keys on the beach and never found them again" compared to " That Agent has been lost".See?

The Czechs never denied the meeting. They repeatedly affirmed it. It was George Tenet, a clinton appointee, who denied it. I am very suspicious as to his reasons for doing so.

They say "lost" because they don't want to specify exactly who the agent was. If they said "killed" then al-Qaeda would say, "hey, looks like ol' Abdul we scragged last week really was an agent." By saying "lost," they leave open the possibility that, say, the agent is still alive and well inside al-Qaeda, but has stopped providing information—which forces al-Qaeda to consider the possibility that, whoever the agent is, he might start providing information again once the heat cools down.

Before this week I might have been inclined to give Tenet some measure of credibility.........not any longer. He must go!

Was Ritter turned or is he being used to draw the congressional nutballs out and to weaken the DNC? (new pet theory, lol)

Stupid disgusting press....very sad news when an agent is killed...worse yet when it could have been prevented by the press keeping their traps shut. Guess they have no version of "loose lips shink ships" slogan over there.

It was George Tenet, a clinton appointee, who denied it.

Also the true patriot Scott Ritter denied it, on the convincing logic that "If it had happened, you wouldn't know about it."

Scott Ritter is so funny. He a complete joke but doesn't seem to be aware that he is. I used to wonder how he managed to get so much publicity, but I guess it must be for the entertainment value. People want to see how he will embarrass himself this time.

He is such a blatant propagandist, who manages to contridict himself nearly every time he opens his mouth, that even Saddam must be embarrassed to have him as his pet monkey boy. He is so stupid and such a Duffus that you have to watch though.

Its sort of like watching a train wreck. You know its going to be horrible but you can't take your eyes off him.
