SCRANTON, Pa. - The black Chevrolet Suburban of her mandatory security detail was waiting for Rep. Nancy Pelosi late last Sunday night, ready to whisk her from a fundraiser to the next stop in a yearlong, nationwide tour to gain Democratic control of the House of Representatives.

She wouldn't, if she'd put down the pictures of Hillary.
I assume that she is reimbursing the government for the unofficial use of that vehicle. After all the kvetching about Bush using AF1 for speeches and campaigning, this should likewise be criticized. Hell, she isn't even in her home state!!
Party of the people!
There is no way that Dick Gephardt would step down shortly after Election Day to run for president if he were Speaker of the house. No one, not even Dick, thinks the Democrats will take the house.
The speaker is the second most powerful individual in the United States. Speakers have more power when their party does NOT hold the presidency. There is zero way that Gephardt would resign to run for the Presidency if he thought he had a snowballs chance in hell of being the Speaker.
It tells you a lot about the Democrats problems. They are promoting Nancy in hopes she can raise money. A future speaker is coming to our town. Come to the dinner and bring money is what this is about. She is not likely to ever be speaker.
She certainly is ambitious. But if Dubya stays popular and the Repubicans hold the house and retake the senate, the major thrust in the Democratic party will be to move to the right. Political candiates and parties are different from their followers. Office holders and parties all want to win more than anything else. Followers on both the left and right want their agenda promoted more than anthing else. Nancy Pelosi will learn as all previous political players learn, the party will go where the voters are. She has way too much ideology to get to the top and stay there.
Gephardt watches the voters. He was standing behind the president on Iraq when Daschle was out to lunch. Nancy is an ideologue... Idologues have little long term success in either party. If Daschle loses the senate he will be on his way out too.
Most people don't know that Senator Byrd once held Daschles job until the Democrats fired him. They gotta win or look like they might win. Gephardt looks like a man trying to save his career. Daschle and Pelosi look like two politicans trying to end theirs. They just don't know it.
1) She has criticized China and continues to voice skepticism of China's intentions
2) Well, make that THREE good things about Nancy Pelosi...
I'm sure, however, that the President was a complete gentleman, as he should be. However, the look on her fembot/libbot/combot-looking face would have been priceless had she heard something like,"Huh! I got plans for YOU, Honey! It IS 'Honey', ain't it?. How 'bout ya PLAN to @$#^@&*$ my &#**&#(#$& while I *&%%#$$& your &#%^%#(%!!!".
