Carl, Carnahan, Bowels Feel Cramps
October 21, 2002
Three Democrat candidates touted by the media and the party; three tales of self-inflicted wounds. In the North Carolina Senate race, Irksome Bowels has been caught bashing Elizabeth Dole for supporting individual Social Security retirement accounts when he himself favored them in 1998!
Let this be a lesson to you: if you ever deviate from your principles for political gain, your hypocrisy will come back to bite you in the bowels. Irksome was right on this. If you'd invested your Social Security nest egg in the stock market in 1955, you'd retire today with a pile of money occasional downturns and all. The Raleigh News & Observer called Bowels flip "a low-blow tactic," and TV stations took the almost unheard of step of pulling his attack ads off the air.
Bowels called for help to a party hack once busted for running push polls for Lawton Chiles and against Jeb Bush in Florida. The January 26, 1998 Wall Street Journal reported, "Starting with the president [Clinton] and his chief of staff, Erskine Bowles, a former investment banker, the White House is plainly open to market-based options." Now, did Republicans run scare ads when the Democrats said they wanted to privatize part of Social Security? Did Republicans worry little old ladies by saying, "Democrats want to gamble your Bingo money!" Nope.
While Irksome Bowels is reeling in North Carolina, the woman who even Democrats say has no business being a senator is scrambling to restore the confidence of the AARP in Missouri. Yes, the American Association of Retired Persons has demanded that Senator Jean Carnahan stop running ads that quoted them.
The AARP is supposed to be non-partisan, so they can't be quoted in political smear ads which are the only way Carnahan thinks she can beat up-and-coming Congressman Jim Talent. Carnahan's puppet masters mailed out thousands of propaganda pieces bearing the AARP logo, giving the false impression that the group had endorsed the widow over JT.
Norma Collins of the Missouri AARP says that the group is required by law to take no sides in politics. Everything is backfiring on these people! No dirty trick is working. I have no idea how this is going to affect voters, but it has to be obvious that these people have no principles and that they're just in utter chaotic disarray.
The Democrats: So Lame, They May Become the Third Party
Fred Dicker writes a third tale of Democratic political woe in Monday's New York Post. Get this: "Former president Bill Clinton has been bluntly warned that New York Democrats face 'national humiliation' because of Carl McCall's poorly run campaign for governor." McCall is running third behind Republican Governor George Pataki and independent Thomas Golisano. If the polls don't flip, the Democrats may end up on the C line on the New York ballot!
Golisano's pollster John Zogby said, "I'm ready to mortgage my house and predict that Golisano comes in at least second, barring anything unforeseen." That's John Zogby, who's supposedly an independent pollster. I know he gets hired by campaigns, but now he's predicting the outcome of the New York race and he thinks that Golisano may either win or come in second.
McCall is out there begging the DNC for money, which they don't want to waste on him. The former president was informed of McCall's dire straits, and Democrats complain that Bubba's sitting back on his ass raising money and not fighting the beloved Pataki. This meltdown is happening under the tutelage of Bill and Hillary. It's not even covered up anymore that they are the leaders of the Democratic Party nationwide and specifically in New York state.
Great news...
I haven't. But I get a sense that not too many folks are worried about a Dole loss.
Bob Dole is in the area campaigning. Be sure to meet him. He usually shows up in joints like the Golden Corral...
I did a Dogpile.com map search. It looks like exit 93 (Brogden Rd.) off of I-95. A few streets north of the highway is Wal Pat Road. Make a left off of Brogden.
Free BBQ? Maybe worth the trip...
