NASA may, thankfully, be about to make major changes in its vaunted "Space Launch Initiative," known in acronym shorthand as SLI.
A major review of the program scheduled for November has been rescheduled, with no definite new date. Its future is in flux, as policy in space transportation (particularly reusable space transportation) is clearly being rethought.

I, too, get frustrated when people call any future launch system a "shuttle." It does lock us into the mindsets of the past.

Yeah, the 'shuttle' means one thing, and one thing only. They need a new name to go with their new vehicle. Bus, ferryboat, space hopper, taxi.

Does this mean the Trekkies will petition the first next-gen vehicle that rolls off the assembly line to be christened the Enterprise-A?
(all Trekkies feel free to insert your favorite Trek series' "Enterprise letter classification" here)
To: NonZeroSum
We need a separate vehicle for people only. Something along the lines of the X-15 but larger and with a crew of four. Lift the heavy material on expendable rockets.

BUMPING for space explorationing, travel and settlement.

Yes. I'm sure the USAF would love having it's space vehicles named after US Naval vessels like Enterprise, Constellation, Yorktown, Constitution, Intrepid, etc.
LOL
