On Oct. 6, Cardinal Adam Maida said at the National Shrine of the Little Flower church that Catholic political leaders "may never advocate for or actively support legislation which would allow direct attacks on innocent human life."

Anne Doyle has stormed down the center aisle of the church and out the door when the priest launches into a pro-life homily. She has talked back during pro-life sermons and corrected the priest in public when he uses gender-specific nouns like "man."

What a maroon! Go find a dyke church to join.

Maybe Catholic FReepers can explain to a fellow non-Catholic Christian: If these lefties don't like what the church teaches, why don't they just leave?

They are. In droves. Both the laity and clergy. In 20 years time, the Catholic Church will have the social, political and moral influence of the Kiwanis Club.

Doyle's boyfriend, a non-Catholic, asked "Why do you call yourselves Catholics if you pick and choose between the issues?"

Good question. The Church needs to do a big housecleaning, it certainly doesn't need pro-abortionists in it's membership.

"she is privately against abortion, but would not restrict women's access to abortion"

I'm privately against point blank shooting someone in the head but would not restrict another person's access to it.

They're just like the America-haters who won't leave the US (example: Alex Baldwin and Cher and Jane Fonda) they'd rather stay and attempt to destroy from within.

"Catholics are independent as a group," Doyle explained. "Besides, the church is not relevant on positions like birth control and abortion. This is our group consensus. And we think of ourselves as normal, not extreme."

Doyle was obviously educated at the Costanza Institute, whose motto is, "It's not a lie if you believe it." I hope she invokes the "democracy" argument during her particular judgment.

Equally icky to me

What 56 year-old human being uses "icky"?

These women are Democrats; the fact that they also say they're Catholic is secondary.

Can someone explain to me how this pastor permits her to conduct weekly discussion groups in her parish on "conscience formation"? What she does on her own time and at her own facility is none of my business, but allowing her to conduct classes at a Catholic Church on conscience formation makes no sense at all. She is in the business of conscience desensitization, not conscience formation.

On the contrary, purging dissenters, apostates, and those who love their sin more than God's truth will make us stronger, not weaker.

Jesus started with 12 men and changed the world. He'll be starting over with considerable more than that this time.

The Catholic church is largely a cultural institution. It is not easy to leave. I know, I tried. Think about it. The very name of the other choices, "Protestant" What are they protesting? The Catholic Church. If I go to the Anglican Church, I feel like I'm betraying my church and, in fact, it won't be too long before someone hints to me that the Catholic Church is evil. (I'm not picking on Anglicans, my only real experience was Unitarians and Lutherans.) I was never terribly tied to the cultural part of the Church. My mother was Protestant while I was growing up although she converted at the age of 76. My father never was a Knight of Columbus. His father was not a Catholic, etc. etc. My point is, a lot of Catholics could care less about the Pope or theology. They are there for the pot luck suppers and the parochial schools and the fact that you can have wine at Church events (and I'm not just talking about Mass). I left that culture and then came back because I believe that under all the layers, the Catholic theology is the most securely routed in the early church and has a thin bright line that goes back to Christ and Peter. I can totally do without the other stuff.

I know you wrote that with good intentions, but it came off kinda scarey. Well, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to purge some dissenters...

No, in 20 years, the Catholic church will still be full, but the parishoners will be Korean, Mexican, Colombian and Vietnamese, and the priests will be following the teachings of the church.

Of course, if these bimbos get their way, they will take over the church structure into an "american church", but the rest of us will still be hanging in, with priests from pious Viet Namese families or missionary priests from Tanzania.

23-October-2002 -- EWTNews Brief

DENVER ARCHBISHOP GIVES BLUNT INSTRUCTIONS TO CATHOLIC VOTERS
DENVER, Oct 23, 02 (CWNews.com) -- In an unusually clear and forthright statement of Catholic political responsibilities, Denver's Archbishop Charles Chaput, OFM Cap, has urged Colorado voters to judge political candidates by their stand on legislation regarding abortion.

In a column published today in his archdiocesan newspaper. Archbishop Chaput writes: "Catholics have a very clear, very specific piece of pending federal legislation by which we can measure very Congressional candidate." He explains that the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act (ANDA), which would "protect the conscience rights of Catholics and other health-care providers," is an essential measure, protecting the freedom of conscience.

"Any candidate-- Republican or Democrat -- unwilling to protect that freedom through practical legislation like ANDA is unworthy of Catholic support," the archbishop writes. He finishes his column by saying: "The candidates who oppose ANDA wont get my vote."

The archbishop charges that abortion proponents have "fought the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act with a fog of misleading arguments." He predicts that if they are not checked, "pro-abortion groups will continue to bend the Constitution and attack health-care providers until Catholics and other people of conscience are forced out of this vital public ministry."

Archbishop Chaput points out that this issue has "nothing to do with party affiliation." His columns lists several of the candidates for Congressional seats in Colorado, and gives their responses to a survey, submitted by the Colorado Catholic Conference, asking candidates for their views on the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act. The archbishop also notes that several candidates did not answer the survey, and calls upon them to make a clear statement of their position on the issue.
