Fact Sheet Immigration

With various proposals for some form of amnesty for illegal aliens being debated in Washington, it is useful to have an idea of the magnitude of the problem. Of course no one knows exactly how many aliens are living and working illegally in the United States because of the illegal nature of their presence, which prevents enumeration.

The 2000 Census, like all previous censuses, made no attempt to determine the immigration status of foreign-born residents. Nevertheless, the results of the Census did contribute to a re-evaluation of the proportion of the illegal alien population. It now appears

The burden that illegal aliens have brought upon California alone is overwhelming. Thanks for posting this article. Hopefully it might open the eyes of some on this forum who are so quick to cry racism when anyone complains about the invasion from Mexico. They might feel differently when it is happening in their state.

Does anyone know what the position of the environmentalist movement in general is regarding immigration? With all the hype about water shortages and land/natural resource depletion one would think they would be against having millions of new immigrants coming into the US.

Two years ago there was a movement within the Sierra Club to come down on the right side of immigration, but it was beaten back by the hopelessly politically correct in California and those responsible were tossed out of the organization, I believe.

Enviro groups ride free
Denver Post, July 18, 2001

"The (Sierra C)lub's official policy today is that environmental concerns such as clean water, clean air and the use of public lands can be addressed without noticing the enormous impact of legal and illegal immigration.

Considering the club's record on energy and sprawl, the wonder is not that it is criticized. The wonder is that it's not openly ridiculed."

This is wat the Sierra Club says about population growth and immigration. These were adopted in 1969 and 1978 respectively!

Slowing US Population Growth

The Sierra Club urges the people of the United States to abandon population growth as a pattern and goal; to commit themselves to limit the total population of the United States in order to achieve balance between population and resources; and to achieve a stable population no later than the year 1990.

Adopted by the Board of Directors, May 3-4, 1969

Immigration

The Sierra Club urges Congress to conduct a thorough examination of U.S. immigration laws, policies, and practices. This analysis should include discussion of:

The impact of immigration of different levels on population trends in the United States, The disproportionate burden on certain states, and The effect of immigration to the U.S. on population growth and environmental quality in this country. Substantial international migration, whether legal or illegal, arises to a great extent from the growing desperation in many societies of the world. With world population increasing at more than 70 million per year, it is clear that international migration can make only an insignificant contribution to easing world population pressures.

Currently, only the U.S., Canada, and Australia among all countries accept more than a handful of permanent immigrants. All regions of the world must reach a balance between their populations and resources. Developing countries need to enlarge opportunities for their own residents, thus increasing well-being, eventually lessening population growth rates, and reducing the pressures to emigrate.

Developed nations must work towards greater conservation of resources as well as population stabilization in order to reduce impact on depletion of non-renewable resources, creation of pollution, and damage to ecosystems. This combination would remove the root causes of international migration, by providing more equitable opportunities for people throughout the world.

A major challenge facing the United States is to help influence the world in this direction. The U.S. foreign assistance program and other U.S. international activities can be major means to address such concerns.

Therefore, the Sierra Club urges continuing review of U.S. foreign policy and foreign assistance programs to ensure that their efforts enhance reduction in population growth rates, improve environmental protection, and further environmentally sound development in all countries of the world.

Adopted by the Board of Directors, May 6-7, 1978 [Really up to date!]

Thanks... since immigrants coming to the US will no doubt use far more resources here than in their home country it makes their position even more absurd.

It's overwhelming on the one hand, and personal on the other.

My son just 'met' an illegal head on in an intersection and now has about $2,000 worth of damages to his car. The other driver - at fault - had no registration, no proof of insurance, and wasn't the owner of the vehicle. Did the cops take him in? Nope, just cited him for no insurance and released him. Where's the justice in that?

This is an all-too-common event, unfortunately. Many illegals use just one car, and tracking them down after an accident is impossible because many of them live in crowded apartments. They just change their names if they have an accident, and the others will say they never heard of the guy. This has happened to friends of mine.

Even if you have "uninsured motorist" coverage on your policy, your insurance rate will go up if you use it. The illegal aliens get off free no matter what. Most of them are terrible drivers.

I suspect their answer would be for Americans to stop reproducing in order to make room for the illegals. If that doesn't work fast enough, I supose we are to go see Dr. Kevorkian!

They are keeping their opinions on immigration very secretive. of course, as liberals, they encourage inflation, but it goes agaisnt one of their main objectives,... population control.

The left has the same problem with the feminists. As liberals, they must embrace immigration, but immigration from 3rd world countries will greatly erode women's rights.

I recently wrote an article on immigration and women's rights, http://www.juntosociety.com/monty/mrtwi101802.html . When researching for the article, I wrote to 6 different Women's groups asking for their official position on immigration. I waited quite a while, I think about 3 weeks before finishing the article. To this day, I have still received no response form any of the women's groups.

No big deal, he's still alive. I work next to a bodyshop full of illegal trespassers from Mexico. Last week, a few of them went out on a drunken joyride and blew through an intersection here in town , killing the driver of the other car. Two of the passengers immediately got out and ran, while the driver was knocked around a bit, he was picked up by police. They questioned him and let him go because he told them he wasn't driving at the time. He went to the Mexican consolute and tried to get a "get out of (jail) the country free" card, no go.
He was arested shortly thereafter and has a 100,000.00 bail posted. If you do a search in the Connecticut Post, I'm sure you can find the article.

Can someone please tell me how we can collectively make enough noise about the illegal alien problem that they will no longer be able to ignore us?

What's "Homeland Security" when you help possible terrorists by having thousands of miles of unsecured borders?
