I have a martial arts background from 30 years ago. Seagal appears to be VERY highly trained in Okinawa style karate along with some Japanese variations up to the sixth degree. He's the best I've seen in the movies. He's almost invulnerable to attack from the average black belt. My impression is that many of the scenes in his movies ate not stages, but he's playing with the other actors. The guy is built like a python and has fast reflexes.

Unfortunately, he seems to be going left wing nuts.

Like I said,Iknow nothing of his politics, but he has the "look" if you know what I mean.If I was unarmed I would be scared to death to look this man in the eye, that is what I meant by the "look".

I'll take Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba over Seagal any day.Chiba also has a black belt in Okinawa style karate.

Agreed. All one has to do is watch "Out For Justice" to see Segal at his peak. He has aged without question. A lot of camera tricks now. But he could probably still kick everyones asses on this thread...mine included.

His martial art is Aikido, isn't it?

His chosen style is Aikido, but as you know, to advance in to the higher black belt ranks one must also be a black belt in dissimilar styles.
