Former President Bill Clinton was thought to be a draw for potential black voters, seen as critical to Sen. Landrieu's success.
New rumours were circulating in the Big Easy Monday that Clinton had cut a phone message that will be used by the State Democratic Party in a get out the vote effort in New Orelans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport-perhaps as early as Friday and on Election Day.
'We don't know if Clinton is doing anything or not,' said a state party official who could be reached for comment.
'And if he is, it isn't anyone's business but the voters of the State of Louisiana.'

Maybe somebody on Terrell's campaign should get this call recorded and play it in a Terrell ad.

I don't see anything about a radio ad being cut by Clinton in the article.... but I wouldn't be surprised if one was use in selected markets..... The telephone message has been used around the country as a GOTV effort by both Republicans and Democrats.....

Yeh. I remember reading about this awhile back. She asked Clinton not to visit the state in person, but did ask for a tapped recording to get out the black vote. She plays the race card.

Or the myriad of other candidates he has taken to the politcal graveyard.

I hung up on Martin Sheen when he called. Can't recall who he wanted me to vote for either. Maybe it was Bill McBuffoon, who lost to Jeb Bush.

I'd hang up on Martin Sheen as well! (unless his Daughter in Law Denise Richards was asking to visit)

From another thread, " The Terrell campaign plans to start running radio ads this week that feature a Clinton impersonator endorsing Landrieu, Louisiana Republican Party Chairman Pat Brister said."
Maybe we'll wind up with dueling clintbillies!

Who can Landrieu recruit to rally the Democratic faithful? Not Al Gore, not Bill Clinton and not Jesse Jackson. The party has no stars that it can deploy without fear of doing more harm than good. During the Reagan years, Jackson was credited with registering enough minority voters in the South to return the Senate to Democratic hands, but white Southern Democrats today tiptoe around the race issue for fear of alienating white rural voters. Clinton will record phone messages urging Democrats to vote, but he wont appear in the state.

Thanks Dixie! At least we know what day they will be running now..

She asked Clinton not to visit the state in person, but did ask for a taped recording to get out the black vote. I think she's being very smart about this -- she knows that many of her supporters are dumb enough to think Bill Clinton's actually a black man.
