Time for the Catholic Church to step up to the plate and stop pandering to democrat and/or republican catholic candidates who are pro-abort.

If the bishop had balls, he would excommunicate her. I am not a Roman Catholic, but I can guarantee you this: If I would run for public office and support abortion in any way, I would be excommunicated.

Looks like this is another example of Maida being out to lunch. This is his call.

He should inform Granholm that the cathedral is not available for her use and that she may not receive Communion until she renounces her "pro-choice" politics.

The "Pontius Pilate" stance of "I wash my hands of this issue" is not acceptable. By ommssion, he is giving Granholm his blessing.

Excommunicate her NOW.

Bump.

If this country had bishops that threw out the abortionist so-called Catholics we'd be in so much better shape.

The bishops spend their time telling all the parishes at election time to not get political. Hey, if they threw the aborts out and made a huge scene what a difference we could see at the polls. The IRS couldn't even touch that one could they!

How sad that so many hundreds of thousands of MI Catholics voted for this new Democrat governor on grounds of personality and/or party.

Write the Lansing Diocese - and respectfully request that Bishop Mengeling disallow the "100% Pro-Choice" Granholm from holding any kind of service in the Church.

Haven't you noticed, even George Will fell under her spell. He wants a constitutional ammendment to allow those who were NOT born in America to become president.

How can you have an "interfaith service" at a Catholic church?

Does the bishop permit this?

Is George Will still on "This Week"? I have not seen the program since "Cokie" and "Sam" left it. And I hadn't seen it much under their tutelage either. I would imagine that Will is as infatuated with the new MI governor as he was with former Senator Moynihan.

Saw Will pontificating about the lovely and beautiful Ms.Granholm one day......must have been on This Week....but I was just surfing by and could not believe what I was hearing. He's either senile or a complete fool.

As for Moynihan, he talked the talk but NEVER EVER walked the walk. Her Hiney taking his place in the Senate is fitting, IMHO.

How sad that the Republicans ran an unlikeable candidate and ran a bad campaign. The pubbies handed the governorship to Granholm and only have themselves to blame.

Did the Republican gubernatorial candidate lose because he spoke only in platitudes? Or was there rejection of the Engler administration? Did the candidate fail to articulate a conservative vision? Was it union support that made Granholm's victory possible? Why did Granholm win? She was never behind in the polls.

How does a bishop ex-communicate anyone. The Pope ex-communicates. Also, what was your last sentence saying? Are you going to ex-communicate yourself?

Has anyone contacted the former Michigan Republican Party Chairman, Betsy DeVoss? If anyone could get the Church's attention, she probably could.

I don't have contact information for her, but Michigan FReepers might try their State Party HQ.

"If the bishop had balls, he would excommunicate her."

If he did, he'd hold the interfaith service, with her as the guest. Then with the help of specialists, he'd do an exorcism on the whole bunch.

>>Did the Republican gubernatorial candidate lose because he spoke only in platitudes?
No, he was whiny and negative and ran a horrible campaign. Instead of focusing on what he brought to the table, he spent his time bashing Granholm, which turned off independent voters and many of the Republicans. Granholm stayed "on message" and didn't respond.

>>Or was there rejection of the Engler administration?
For sure.

>>Did the candidate fail to articulate a conservative vision?
Yes. See above.

>>Was it union support that made Granholm's victory possible?
It's always a factor.

>>Why did Granholm win? She was never behind in the polls.
Don't discount the impact that Republican dirty tricks had in Western Michigan. On a recent visit there, I heard that the elections were dirty over and over again. My parents are conservative, yet independent. My dad commented that, after seeing all the shenanigans pulled in the last election cycle, he'll never vote Republican again. I found that comment quite disturbing. The Republicans had to be just awful for him to say that. The Republicans should be acting to remove current party leadership (Sikkema) or otherwise clean up their act.
