I wish the President could look elsewhere--GS gave us Jon Corzine as a NJ Senator--- and they have had other highly placed Treas. official and Fed Reserve officials.

Guess the merger of Wall Street and Washington is coming out of the closet. Two crime families getting together right before our eyes. Hold on to your wallets folks.

Bill Archer is not stupid. Although he favors fundamental tax reform, he is wise enough to know when the public is not politically prepared for the changes that we will ultimately need to make.

At least he has a vision for how to fix the problem; unlike people like you---who can only ridicule and demonize those who want a better future for our children and grandchildren---a future that can't include the IRS and the income tax if it is to be a free and a prosperous one.

I'm old enough too...and use to watch it everyday when the local station picked it up for syndication...but I don't think I ever remember hearing the philanthropist's name. I was too busy dreaming of what I would do with all that dough!

And with inflation, what would he give in today's dollars?

....I fear that the next tax-cut round -- surely we should continue to work toward a system where individuals owe no more than a third of their income to Uncle Sam -- will be far more difficult. A blessing and curse of the Bush tax-cut plan is that it will remove a significant number of middle-income Americans from the income-tax rolls altogether. As a result, the percentage of voters who have federal income-tax liability in the coming years will fall well below 65%. It may become nearly impossible, politically, in the not-too-distant future to adjust income taxes downward....
By Bill Archer. Mr. Archer, senior policy advisor to PricewaterhouseCoopers, served as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee from 1994 to 2000.

Do you ever have anything positive to add to the debate? Anything besides criticism and negativism?

Dumb question on my part, I know--considering your track record around here.

John Baresfoot Tipton was the millionaire (whose face you never saw). Michael Anthony, his man friday, handed out the checks.

I guess they are called sirens, because if I was found frolicking with these buxom lasses, the sirens would be screaming to take me to the hospital when my wife finds out!

Two more children and I am free. And my income is right up near the 20th percentile from the top. I can't wait. Screw tax reform - make love (and babies)!

This is part of why I am opposed to this national retail sales tax nonesense. This would impose a huge tax increase on ME and others like me.
