Foxnews had reported that Steven Friedman ( if I remember correctly) was to replace Lindsey and that the new treasury secretary would also be a business executive.

New Bush Team Won't End Turmoil at Treasury; more Treasury officials prepare to leave... Former Goldman Sachs chairman Stephen Friedman is poised to take Lindsey's job, sources said. Friedman won praise from Jon Corzine, a Democratic senator for New Jersey and himself a former chief of Goldman Sachs, who said: "I think Steve Friedman's a very capable man. He is intellectually disciplined about how he approaches problems." There was speculation that Don Evans, the president's friend and the current Commerce Secretary, could be picked for the Treasury's top job. He has indicated he wants it, according to Republican sources.
The shopping list includes other names such as Gerald Parsky, a California financier and lawyer; former Rep. Bill Archer of Texas, the former chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and discount brokerage founder Charles Schwab, among others. [end snip]

"Foxnews had reported that Steven Friedman ( if I remember correctly) was to replace Lindsey "Well I sure hope he predicted the downturn and job situation, if not, just dead weight.

Many predicted a downturn back in 2000, perhaps he was one of those who said we'd see a recession in 2001?

My choice is Bill Archer, cause he's been a leader for years in educating folks about why we should junk the current tax system...but sheesh...NOT Parsky, PLEASE!

Sorry, my # 11 was meant for you.
I like Archer alot, but Don Evans is a great guy...can't get much closer to the President either. There can be no doubt about whose policies would be being implemented with Mr. Evans.
But Parsky would certainly be a highly unpopular choice throughout the GOP...he has hardly made himself dear to our friends in CA.

It's Ben Stein LOL..
As funny as that is, Ben Stein is truly a very smart guy, and would be far better suited for public office than any appointment made by Bubba! ;-)

Evans is a good choice for SecTreas. But why does Goldman Sachs have to have a lock in the gov't--i.e. Lindsay's replacement? They always seem to have a former chairman, exec., etc. highly placed in the money tree.
I wish the President could look elsewhere--GS gave us Jon Corzine as a NJ Senator--- and they have had other highly placed Treas. official and Fed Reserve officials.

Several years ago when "W" was gov. of Texas I attended a meeting with some people that worked for "W". They were working on a project for him in the Tx. prison system. The people "W" had working for him were stellar. But they made it very clear the he had them on a schedule and that if they did not hit their marks for him he would replace them. "W" has a rep. for this. You must produce or it's buh-bye.

Those aren't sirens. Those are red-and-blue flashing lights. Sirens are what make that aaaaaaWOOOOOOoooooo sound. Right?
But seriously, if Don Evans moves over from Commerce, we're still short a Cabinet member. Who would be a good Sec Commerce choice? Archer? Schwab? Gramm?
