ICONOCLAST DAILY NOTEBOOK....

Latest Peace Protests Are Unbarable....

January 16, 2003: If war is hell, then anti-war agitprop is sheer torture. Take the latest flavor of the month in peace protests, protesting for peace in the buff. For example, as many a leering news report has informed us lately, a group of 105 cerebally-challenged California women -- many of them grandmothers -- are taking it it all off and using their naked bodies to spell out such imaginative slogans as "Peace" and "No War." Referring to themselves as the "Baring Witness" movement, they say they are "baring all" to protest President George Bush's "naked aggression" against Iraq "in a bid to prevent a war."

They may be publicity hounds of the highest magnitude. But they sure could use a more original copywriter.

Anyway, here's what the 72-year-old leader of "Baring Witness" had to tell a San Diego newspaper about becoming frustrated that America's pacifists' voices were being drowned out by "a clamour for war" (not that the rest of us really minded): "Women and many men are extremely frustrated at not being heard over this hostile aggression that the United States is pre-empting. The only way to make ourselves heard is to remove our clothing. Women kept telling me, we had had it with what's going on and that our calls to the White House and letters to the editors of our papers were being ignored, so I decided to get a few of us together and do something about it."

Thank goodness for the therapeutic benefits of taking your clothes off collectively and spelling out peace slogans together when George W. Bush doesn't return your calls. And it is probably true that this group could be surprisingly effective in their mission. After all, when poor, beleaguered President Bush gets a look at the horrific spectacle of 72-year-old naked grandmothers doing the Fully Monty for peace, he may be tempted to call back the troops just to get these dear ladies to put some clothes on and spare us all any further embarrassment.

On the other hand, should he have to listen to too much of their righteous claptrap, he may be tempted to send of one of those CIA drones to California to put them all out of their misery............

Why don't Hollywood starlets do naked protests for peace? We only get these saggy-titted heifers protesting.

Have hesitated to show this site and I won't run it as a story.Found thru http://www.asparagirl.com/blog/ the site below..as she has described(Tuesday, December 31, 2002)

Once you have chosen your language:
NOT IN OUR NAME !
"A site called strikefree.net urges, none too coherently, the "governments of middle east" [sic] to nuke the Iraqi oil fields, thereby irradiating the oil, in the (likely) event of a US invasion:

"In case of an attack the only thing you can do is to disable your spouters so Bush must think twice about the irrecoverable debt he claim for his war of theft.

Make your oil unusable for US cars by radiation.

Give the USA a chance for a radical ecological modernization. Otherwise they will blow out your resources excessively without any benefit for your nation and without any consideration about the climate desaster." [sic]http://www.strike-free.net/en/ls/nion.htm
The site then gives a link to a similarly-named site, strike-free.net, whose English-language page has such go-get-'em tidbits as "By the diction of the warlord George W. Bush choose the white side or the black one to enjoy the politics of freedom". It has a page of photos of American and British politicians and generals, entitled "primary targets", and says "Here are the warhogs and murders of your families. You have a right to kill them like they kill yours.".

It has a page containing a Flash animation that shows an inordinate amount of attention to sheep and wolves, one of whom is named Angst. You can mouseover the sheep and wolves for pop-ups, but if you leave the animation alone for a minute or two, it eventually reveals a hidden message, as explosions appear on the horizon of the scene: "The great slaughtering will start on February 2003 live at the world open air theater". Was that supposed to be a threat? (also a site on bodybags in numbered sequence)

It also has a link on the front page, entitled "understanding", to Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine website. Whose law was it again, that all idiocies eventually converge?

According to whois, both websites are owned by someone named Christian Werba of Vienna, Austria. Nevertheless, he has a page up comparing President Bush to Hitler and his cabinet to the "Fourth Reich", complete with photos of everyone from Rumsfeld to Rice (!) wearing Nazi general hats and helmets."

Anyone know how a site like this can be shut down? Clearly to me threats of violence. NOT IN OUR NAME..let's hope his was stolen from the celebs NOT IN OUR NAME slogan.

I don't know about you, but they'd have more credibility with me if they'd showed some of that concern for their fellow man when X42 was bombing the hell out of our former allies in Serbia.

Gimme a break.
