Maybe JR isn't making any money from this, but what would be wrong about it if he did?Not a thing. He should be making considerably more than he does.
To: Jim Robinson
I did! I started posting reviews of my favorite music albums. I think I got to The Cars and then the website kind of stalled, sort of like the band after releasing Heartbeat City.

Started as programmer/operator, then moved into full time programming, then systems analyst, then middle management, then senior management, and eventually ceo of own company. But coded all the way. Still a coding fool.

I thank you for starting this operation. I remember reading about 10+ years ago, how Americans would soon be reading all of their news off of our computer screens. At the time, I couldn't envision it, I thought that getting the morning paper with my coffee and taking it to work with me would never replace having the news on my screen. However, with your vision, I have seen it happen.
I still take the WSJ in the tactile form, but I've become used to getting all the rest of my news from "my computer screen". However, I would never have gotten used to it, were it not for FR, the resource you have built, and the friends I've made here.
I've been able to tell my local liberal rag, to remove itself from my front porch!
Thanks for the vision, Jim.

Too late Libertina, I just signed on the dotted line so to speak and am giving FreeRepublic $5 a month for the duration. It would have been more, but I am unemployed right now, so it is all I can afford. Now, when I find a job, I will up it!!

($5 a month, if I can afford it, I know that all of you can.)
To: MonroeDNA
sneakypete, you are soooo right. Could you say that again? I don't hear it very often.
To: Aric2000
The effect of FreeRepublic is now world-wide. For that we owe Jim Robinson the kudos. I'm a smoker. I cut back one carton per month and it goes to FR. The price of cigs has risen to where I'm only donating half a carton now, but who knows, if I sell something, BINGO! FreeRepublic is the essence of 'we the people'. Freep on!

Well, Amy and I take a draw to cover our expenses. There is nothing wrong with you taking a salary. If you ain't,you should be. Everybody else expects to get paid for their work and their creations, why should you be a exception?
To: Aric2000
Now, when I find a job, . . .Start a business. Be a job creator. Take control of your life.
To: Double Tap
You nailed it. Thanks.
What ever happened to capitalism being a good thing.
Beats me. Too damn much jealousy is the best answer I can come up with. As for capitilism being good,it goes WAAAY beyond that. It is ESSENTIAL if we hope to keep a healthy and thriving country. If genius and hard work aren't rewarded, what is the use of trying?
To: MonroeDNA
If there had not been a Free Republic would there have been a Fox News? I sometimes wonder.
I know alot of Freeper's here have given them some of their best lines.

An idea I picked up from someone else (wish I remembered who) ...... I have a link to the secure server displayed prominently on my profile page. I'll never know if it's done any good but I do know that it hasn't hurt anything being there.
Many people click on profile pages to check "born on" dates, to find out where a poster lives, or just out of curiosity. Others may want to consider putting the link on their page also.

Hmmm...it must mean we are so special that JimRob wants us all to think that we are his favorites. Or something like that.

"If there had not been a Free Republic would there have been a Fox News? I sometimes wonder."I hadn't thought of that; you raise an interesting point.
I think Rush and Jimrob tapped into the pent-up frustration of the informed conservative. They blazed the path. When others with the same thoughts (and lots of money) saw the success of the new media models, they jumped in, to their great success.
Rupert Murdock is a savy guy, and he publically told Ted Turner he was starting Fox News specifically to kick Ted's butt. I remember reading his comments.
Ted publically laughed, and scorned the effort. I remember his rebuttal.
Who's laughing now, Mr. "I'm broke" Turner? Shoulda stuck with Cutty Sark, and the racing boats.

Man, you ARE hardcore. I did punchcards in fortran in '78, but stopped there, until '90, when I went to engineering school. What a fumbling catch-up that was.
If you don't ming me asking, what was your very first coding experience? Trial by fire? An accident? What was the first time it "clicked" for you?
In my experience, people really good at coding are kinda born with it, usually not knowing, until the first opportunity presents itself. Once it is discovered, it's like a calling, and they crank out code that works about 3 times as fast as others. Potatoe chip bags and coke cans litter the floor; they go all night; and like a month's worth of code appears overnight.

I think FR may be responsible for more than we may ever know in this world.
