Chinese MIRV Test Successful

Yomiuri Shimbun of Japan reported in its Beijing dispatch on Feb. 8, 2003 that China successfully conducted the MIRV test on December, 2002, using Dong-Feng 21.

The report quoted Chinese sources as saying, "The missile launch test was conducted in mid-December last year at a PLA strategic missile base in Shaxi province, and MIRV technology was apparently employed."

This is apparently the first Chinese success of the MIRV missile test.

China is making feverish efforts to counter American Missile Defense technology and this shows that they made a meaningful progress, the paper reports.

China could not deploy MIRV missiles right away right after this successful test. But They could improve its accuracy and try to push for the early deployment of the missiles, the report adds.

But right now, we can't shoot down an ICBM on the launch pad, in flight or over downtown Los Angeles.

While the ChiComs are MIRVing, the U.S. is downgrading its ICBMs to a mere one warhead per missile (under START ...... or some other ridiculous treaty).

I'll pose this question to you, then...You have two armies. One army has changed their mutiple warhead missiles to single-warhead missiles, the other has as many multiple warhead missiles as they can make. Who would you bet on?

Of course I know that even at one warhead per ICBM we still have a significant strategic advantage over those clowns, MIRVed as they may be. But I still don't like the idea of downgrading our nuclear arsenal, especially in a world that seems to have gone MAD (as it were).

Here's another question: Is it not time for us to form a NUCLEAR strategic partnership with Japan? with their technological innovation, their military history, and their proximity, they would prove a valuable ally. Imagine a technology partnership with Japan--Just the other day, a Japanese scientist created an "invisibility cloak." We have that technology as well, but maybe by working together, we could reduce cost and speed up its implementaion. This would be great for hiding military installations and power plants. But what do I know, I'm just Captan Paintball...

We are downgrading our nuclear capacity from 40,000 nukes to 25,000 nukes.

I think after the 3rd or 4th hit whoever it is will stop messing with us.

Hell! I agree with you! Do you think China will adhere to any treaty? I don't. While we disarm, they are arming themselves to the teeth. (with our technology, no less)

Here's another thing to think about: If we are "not allowed" to put multiple warheads on our missiles, (although they can) are we still going to innovate--i.e. push multiple warhead technology to greater levels? Would we be allowed? Or would that draw criticism from our enemies here and abroad?
