February 7, 2003: Congo (Brazzaville) reported Ninja rebels attacked a freight train the Pool region. One man was killed in the attack. The attack failed to disrupt rail traffic.
January 28, 2003; The president said he was willing to meet with the rebel leader Rev Frederic Bitsangou (also known as Pasteur Ntoumi.) The rebels, who call themselves "Ninjas", have not expressed any interest in negotiating and have generally been behaving like bandits of late. So far, about 150,000 people have fled the area where the rebels are operating.
January 5, 2003; Ninja militias are at it again. A Congo (Brazzaville) government press release accused a Ninja militia group in the pool region of hacking to death 15 civilians in the village of Saint-Michel (200 kms south of Brazzaville). The Ninjas then burned part of the village before retreating into the Mindouli jungle.
December 12, 2002; It is suspected that the Ninja militia, known to operate in the southwestern region where two UN aid workers were kidnapped, were responsible. Trackers were able to follow the trail of the victims and their kidnappers to an area where Ninja fighters have been seen. Some villagers reported that the two UN workers voluntarily went off with some Ninja members. But no one has made any ransom demands yet, at least not publicly.
