Its good to see it go to an artist who sneaked up on the industry instead of one of the pre-packaged saran wrap artists. More proof that the music industry has to get slapped in the face to know whats going on.

I don't understand why they put her in the pop category. She's a jazz musician.

Congratulations to her! I love seeing ACTUAL musicians win, rather than lip synching strumpets with white snakes drapped around their themselves while singing about Diet Pepsi.

By the way----who made an A$$ wout of themselves with the "Anti-War" speeches? I don't have time to go through the 1,796 posts on the LIVE THREAD.

Great news! Big Norah fan here too- bought her album back in October thinking I had stumbled upon a jewel nobody else would ever find out about. Boy was I wrong! A great listen any time.

Also really happy to see she got more press than Eminem did, which is always a good thing.

I was also glad to see Ms. Jones win. I just bought her album a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by her talent. Norah Jones, along with India.Arie, are living proof that a musician can actually possess REAL talent without the gimmicks and gloss. May both their careers thrive.

Here's my Norah Jones story...

My wife was pregnant with our first child when this CD was released. We were in Borders Bookstore, browsing the new music rack and saw this CD with a SALE $8.99 sticker on it--which they often do for new unknown artists before they "break".

I picked it up and noticed that it was on Blue Note Records and being that my wife and I are both fans of Sarah Vaughn, Ella, Etta and all the great female singers of that era, I figured what the heck.

We bought it--and needless to say, loved it. We listened to it non-stop, and evidently, our little unborn baby girl loved it too...from the time she was born, the Norah Jones CD would calm her down when she'd wake up crying in the middle of the night and other times when she needed consoling and nothing else would work.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago...my wife's boss had her buy tickets online to see Norah in concert for $300 bucks a pop. That's a long way from the $8.99 introductory price last year.

BTW our daughter is 14 months old now and none of us are tired of the CD yet--and I doubt we ever will be.

Can't recommend it enough.

Bump and I was thrilled not only because she deserves it but Emimem does not ;).I am proud of my 15 year old skater metal chick because she bought nora's cd. I used to like her Dad Ravi.

I guess Ashante (sp) who had 5-6 #1 hits wasn't the lock I thought she would be form all the results throughout the year.

Congratulations to Norah!
I hope she has staying power, but personally, I got a little tired of her album a few months ago. I think I heard too much of it on the radio (WXPN in Philly), but her take on Hank Williams' 'Cold, Cold Heart' is still my favorite selection and I never got tired of that one.

My vote for album of the year would be Beth Orton's 'Daybreaker', hands down. But then, I don't get to vote.

What are the rules on eligibility? Pearl Jam's Riot Act came out in November, 2002. Does that means it can be nominated next year?

Never heard her music, but first heard of her because her guitar player's dad is Jeff Levy, computer talk show host of LA radio station KFI. Long ago he was playing bump music by his son, then later said that his son worked with Norah Jones, someone you'd be hearing from. He was right!

And the difference between a Pop Vocal Album and a Record of the Year and an Album of the Year is what again?
