Charleston, WV The Women's Right to Know bill (SB 170) passed both Houses in West Virginia overhwelmingly and is on its way to Governor Bob Wise.
It is urgent that you contact Governor Bob Wise at (304) 558-2000 or (888) 438-2731 and ask him to sign the Women's Right to Know Bill (SB 170). Calls should continue through tomorrow, March 7, 2003. Please encourage as many pro-lifers to call as possible.
Also, please encourage your church congregation to pray that the Governor does not veto this legislation again this year. Ask them to contact Governor Bob Wise at (304) 558-2000 or (888) 438-2731 and ask him to sign the Women's Right to Know Bill (SB 170).
The Women's Right to Know bill will require that abortionists provide women and girls who want it with medically accurate, objective and non judgmental information regarding the risks of abortion, alternatives to abortion, and her developing unborn child 24-hours before her abortion.
States that have enacted this legislation have seen abortion rates drop as much as 16%, which could reduce the number of abortions in West Virginia by as much as 400 each year.
West Virginians for Life, the state affiliate to the National Right to Life Committee, is the only statewide organization solely dedicated to the protection of human life. WVFL works in educational, legislative, and political activities to ensure the right to life for unborn children, people with disabilities, and older people. For more information, call (304) 291-LIFE.

What are the chances of the governor vetoing?
To: nickcarraway
I'm not close enough to the situation to know...but I'm sure the chances are high, unfortunately. After all, he has vetoed it before, right?
I'm sure the pressure is on him bigtime from his Democrat base to do so, although he has been forced of late to act more like a Republican. We whittled down his majorities in the legislature in the last election, and the pro-life movement has gained more power.
So, all we can do is get the word out; inundate his office with demands he sign; and pray...while at the same time preparing to knock him and his liberal buddies off in 2004.
I'm stuck here in Iowa at the moment, but if I can find the resources I fully intend to come out there and help make that happen.

Gov. Wisea$$ took the chicken route. He let the bill pass without his signature.

He's NOT signing it. Announced in the paper today that Wise is going to let it become law by default. Wise says,
"While I do not feel a compelling need for this legislation, I recognize the strong majorities in both houses that have voted for this bill." Bill SB170 passed both houses with veto-proof majorities - 30-2 with two absences in the Senate, 82-15 in the house. This bill goes into effect in May. Ah, the sweet smell of Victory. YEAHHH!!!

Congratulations, my friends!
In the eyes of many, we lost last fall; but in my opinion, the passage of this bill is more good fruit from our efforts.
Please offer my congratulations to all the great pro-lifers out there, and especially to the good folks at West Virginians for Life.
