"Jewish nation" is probably a bad translation of what is usually translated into English as "the Jewish people".

A curious question. Would Israel exist if there never was a Holocaust? A Jewish state might have existed a bit earlier, if not for Hitler.
It would have been insane for Jews to fight the British during WWII. But if there had been no WWII, who knows?
