Denmark Supports U.S.-British Resolution on Iraq: PM

COPENHAGEN -- The Danish government supports the U.S.-British Security Council draft resolution giving Iraq until March 17 to disarm or face a war, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Tuesday.

"It is positive that the weapons inspectors have signaled some progress, such as the destruction of missiles, but that does not resolve the international community's problem that Saddam Hussein does not respect the demands of the UN Security Council when it comes to disarming," Rasmussen told reporters.

"Iraq is only cooperating a little, cooperating only under pressure and at the last minute," he added.

He said it was essential that UN Resolution 1441, which demands that Saddam Hussein cooperate immediately, actively and unconditionally with the UN, be respected.

"That has not been the case so far. As a result the government supports the draft resolution" submitted by the United States, Britain and Spain, which "sets a final deadline for Saddam Hussein to account for Iraq's weapons of massive destruction," he said.

"The game of cat and mouse is over," Rasmussen stressed. He said the UN's demands "were clear: It is not up to the weapons inspectors to find Saddam's hidden arms. It is Saddam's responsibility to say where they are, or where they were destroyed."

Denmark, which is not currently a member of the UN Security Council, has supported Washington and London on the Iraqi conflict from the start, and was one of the first countries to offer to contribute military resources in the event of war.

U.S. President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair have been engaged in all-out diplomatic efforts in recent days to rally support for their motion, which was expected to come to a vote at the Security Council on Tuesday or today.

Too bad they don't have a vote on the UNSC and no army to send.

Oh,oh. Someone else for Fronz to threaten. I can't possibly be the only one who would LOVE to puch Chirac's teeth out the back of his head.
I just watched John Gibson do an interview with some Francy diploid. He said what happened to us was not their concern.
Made me want to throw the TV out the window!

Freepers, I need your help answering an important question.

If the US (or Denmark) takes over Cameroon and Angola and Guinea (and France) before the Security Council vote is held, do we get to cast their votes?

I think we could accompish this with a minimum of effort. A couple million pizzas for the little guys and a threat to withhold Jerry Lewis videos till they agree for the Frogs)

The only silver lining of the UN debacle is that we are finding who our true friends are.

If a proxy war betwen Denmark and Belgium is in the offing, I hope they use their football hooligans as soldiers.

The burning question is, what is Luxembourg's official position on the war?
