Moran's remarks on Jews stoke debate

Rep. James P. Moran's remarks on the influence of American Jews on the Bush administration's hard line against Iraq have put a public face on a bitter and intensely personal debate among policy-makers and pundits over the motivations of those pushing a new war in the Middle East.

12 years of bombing Iraq, French stabs in the back, Kurdish uprisings, Saudi and OPEC maneuvres to keep Iraqi oil production down, UN inspector dog and pony shows, Hussein buying off the Chinese, Russians and French, our continued costs in enforcing the sanctions regime, Iraqis suffering, etc. etc. - and all Pat B. and his ilk can see is that it is all about Israel.

I've seen this popping up all around. I guess those who say racism often is a search for a simple answer might be right here. These people like Moran have no historical understanding of our 12 years of quagmire with Iraq and who benefits from it - foremostly Saudi. We have plenty of our own reason to get rid of Hussein. More than Israel we could be seen as doing the bidding of Kuwait and Iran if one wants to be conspiratorial.
