I discovered this letter to Santa by sheer luck as I surfed the MMH-364 site. I discovered this site by way of a link in a post here at FR earlier today. The thread was about the 21,000 lb. MOAB- Mother Of All Bombs, and a link led to a Vietnam era "daisy cutter" bomb.

A U.S. Marine writing from Vietnam, has hit the nail on the proverbial head as he relates the feelings felt towards the demonstrators protesting the war from the safe confines of the U.S. of A. Fits the peaceniks of 2003, perfectly.

Doesn`t that say it all? Let`s take it one more place. How about all those green fools that have destroyed the Northwest economy and the its forests. Let them try to live here and feed their children. It is really easy for some to play God when it doesn`t effect them.

paragraph one

Dear Santa,

I have decided to ask you for only one present this year. Since there is no snow here in Vietnam, you can't land your sleigh, so please just wrap up my present and I am sure the postal department will take care of your delivery. Santa, can you imagine the joy on my face when I open your gift and find the one thing that I want for Christmas--an anti-Vietnam demonstrator. At least I'd have someone, all mine, to share my excitement and experiences with, and Santa, I promise that I'll take special care of him.

paragraph two

First thing, I'll give him a haircut, if I have to do it with a bayonet, but I can't promise to keep him clean, the way I'd like to be, because baths are pretty scarce over here !

Yes, I am doing it para. by para. and posting them. Once done, I'll repost them as one letter. Stay tuned.

Remarkable clarity and wisdom by this US Marine.

I'll share my food with him, and even give him my miserable bunk ! I'll share the impossible steaming heat with him. I'll share my heartbreak of seeing my buddies fall beside me.

I'll share the misery of trying to identify the bodies that the cong have left behind. I'll share my hours with him sitting beside me, waist deep in mud and water-filled fox hole.

paragraph five

But, Santa, I'll be warm with the joy of giving a deserving welcome to this Christmas present, you were thoughful enough to send me. I will be so careful of him, and watch out for the things he deserves. The next time one of our patrols are attacked by the cong, I will be the first one to let him run to the front to tell them that he loves them and wants to give them a flower. Santa, I don't want to ask for a Christmas present just for me, so do you think that perhaps you could send all my buddies a demonstrator for their very own ? A Marine

For the history purists... typo in headline hot link. FWIW- MMH-364 should be HMM-364.

That letter touches my heart. As I prepare for the upcoming "Rally For America" on 3/22, here in Kennewick Wa, I am deeper in my resolve to let our military know the majority in America support them I would rather die than let one soldier return to what the vietnam vets did. I am more glad today than ever I decided to take action and support my troops. I am but one woman but my community is actively supporting the upcoming rally! Thank you for the insight. How tragic the men and women on the brink of war have to see the anti-american protests they are fighting to keep as our American right. Freedom! I hope they will see more of the Rally's For America. We each need to do our part!
