White House Blasts Moran, Democrats' Silence

WASHINGTON (GOPUSA News) -- For the second day in a row, the White House had harsh criticism for a Democrat Congressman's offensive remarks. On Tuesday, Spokesman Ari Fleischer condemned Rep. Jim Moran, Jr. (D-VA) who told a community group that the push for war with Iraq was strongly influenced by American Jews.

"If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq we would not be doing this," Moran said. "The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going and I think they should."

Fleischer said, "Those remarks are shocking. Those remarks are wrong. Those remarks are inappropriate. And those are remarks that should not have been said."

This is much worse than Trent Lott's comments.

Why aren't Republicans calling for his resignation?

They are. Everyone is calling for him to resign, and Nancy Pelosi and Moran both say his apology would suffice.

I disagree. I think he needs to be thrown out.

Can't Jim Moran simply be demoted, like Trent Lott was? Like maybe to coat check clerk in the Democratic caucus room of the House of Representatives?

He certainly deserves no important House committee assignments.

Odd, that Jim Traficant could be read out of the Democrat party (and sent to jail), but Jim Moran cannot.

I have no use for Moran whatsoever but what was offensive about what he said? Is the word 'Jewish' a bad word? Should people not say 'Jewish' anymore? What word should they use? Semite American?

it wasn't the terminology he used, it was the fact that he was asserting that the American Jewish community determines US foreign policy. that is offensive and clearly erroneous. unless you are of a mind with Pat Buchanan.

It's been obvious for some time that the "anti-war" sentiment on both the left and right (Buchanon) is heavily steeped in anti-semitism. Let an "anti-war" personage speak long enough and eventually they will get, by way of Palestine and then Sharon, to how they think that American Jews--they will spit out the name Wolfowitz--are in cootrol of U.S. policy.

The Dems don't condemn anti-semitism because they think that it politically advantageous to exploit anti-semitism.

The drunken wifebeater casts the "correct" vote for Speaker of the House.

Not to mention that it is a patent lie. The vast majority of Jews are anti-war.

I suppose we have to face facts. Despite the Holocaust and a 1,000-year history of virulent world anti-semitism, Judaism somehow has retrograded into the same categories of anti-Italian, Irish, Polish, Asian, etc. minibiases--and is now one of the "minor faux pas". Jews are after all "white people" and therefore fall in the unfortunate category of the despised white majority. Unfortunately, African-American issues, fanned by likes of race hustlers like Sharpton and Jackson, will never abade. Misegenation is probably the only answer.

Look, The democrats will even retain a man so vile as to taint and corrupt the young in this nation, teaching them to use his sexual techniques. Disgust hardly defines my feelings for the democrats propping up one more of their elected regardless of merit. This is the height of hyporicracy.

I think he's an idiot and I feel obliged to say that I am a strong supporter of the nation of Israel, however, I don't think Moran should be required to resign for his remarks.

This is old old news. The media is finally catching up with Moran. He has been saying stuff and doing stuff like this for a long time. He has a long history of anti- Israel rhetoric and policies. His campaign contributors are primarily Saudi and Pakistani. He even refers to the "temple mount" by the arab name. On Sept 11, his comment on the house floor was that we should protect the muslim population in the U.S.--that was his first response to the tragedy. See MorAntics.va8gop.org

You may have a point.

If the majority of his constituents are also anti-Semites then he is representing them as they elected him to do.

Hopefully that isn't the case.

Hmmmm... I wonder what business the Jewish and pro-Israel lobbies are into? Aren't they paid to steer U.S. foreign and domestic policy in a way that's advantageous to the 'Jewish community' or the state of Israel?

And, he never said 'determine policy', he probably implied 'influence policy', which happens to be the case.

He has nothing to apoligize for and, if he did, he is probably as big a cowardly idiot as Lott was after his joke-telling 'indiscretion'.

of course that is what lobbyists do. Moran implied a but/for relationship which is erroneous and offensive. and as BradCloven pointed out, has no bearing on reality, since the percentage of Jews supporting the war is MUCH LESS than that of the general populace.

You didn't hear the whole statement. Believe me he sounded like a Nazi (or a Frenchman, or maybe an IRA member) talking about the Jews controlling the government and influencing policy.
