The U.S. military would do well to ensure there are no more Asan Akbars on duty on the Iraq front.
In fact, the Defense Department should be developing some politically incorrect policies right now to ensure that no more U.S. soldiers die needlessly because of disloyal comrades who should be easily spotted and segregated at all costs from those willing to sacrifice their lives to defend our country.
Men like Akbar, the 36-year-old sergeant accused of fragging three officers' tents at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait – killing two and injuring 14 – need to be drummed out of the service and, frankly, out of our country.
It's not exactly like this guy didn't set off alarms before he exploded.
Some reports suggest he was already under investigation for insubordination and had been told he would not be crossing into Iraq. Another report said soldiers overheard Akbar, a Muslim convert, say: "You guys are coming into our countries and you're going to rape our women and kill our children."
Yet, he complained to his mother that he was not permitted to participate in the first Persian Gulf War because of his religion. Which side, Mr. Akbar?
Despite his confession, his mother said she feared he was being persecuted because he was a Muslim. She claimed her son told her: "Mama, when I get over there, I have a feeling they are going to arrest me just because of the name that I have carried."
Obviously, both mother and son have a remarkable persecution complex.
Hasan, who is black, also complained of racism in the military three years ago.
I say the early reports were exactly right: This was a terrorist incident. Akbar is a terrorist – albeit one who was unwisely allowed to serve in the U.S. military and, even more unwisely, assigned to duties in the Iraq theater. Even more unwisely, the U.S. military trained this man to blow things up.
Of course, the FBI is discounting terrorism as a motive. This is the same FBI that didn't see any terrorism when an Egyptian Muslim gunman shot up the El Al ticket counter in Los Angeles on the Fourth of July.
This is also the same FBI that still does not recognize the Beltway snipers as terrorists.
See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil.
Things may be going pretty well in Iraq. Things may be going pretty well in Afghanistan. But I tell you, we may win the battles, but we will lose the war if we as a nation don't get our collective heads out of the sand. Political correctness is not conducive to winning wars. We need to use some common sense.
We need to keep the Asan Akbars far from the hand grenade supplies. We need to keep them far from our fine soldiers and officers. We need to keep them far from sensitive places in government and corporate America. We need to keep troubled men with divided loyalties away from explosives and automatic weapons. And we should not tempt them by placing them near combat areas where they may need to shoot at other men named Asan Akbar.
Does that seem unfair? Does that seem un-American? Does that seem harsh? Does that seem judgmental?
No, it's simple common sense. It's what nations do when they value victory. It's what people do when they value life.
All we can do with Asan Akbar now is to try him and execute him. The sooner the better, I say.
But there are surely other Asan Akbars waiting in the wings. It's time for the U.S. military to find them before those fuses are lit. It's time for the U.S. military to head off more unfriendly fire within our own ranks. It's time for the U.S. military to find the terrorists in our midst.
The FBI-Hoover building should be bulldozed to rubble, and all the agents sent to various farms to pick cotton, rice, celery, cabbage, and lettuce!
Any extras can pick carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, fruits and nuts!
Any others can care for livestock - cattle, pigs, chickens, sheep, and goats, and shovel $hit!
The FBI is a disgusting abomination!
