April Fools!
Peter Jennings Burns the ABC Affiliate Stations

Crusade Against "Arrogant" ABC World News Tonight - Part 2

Pity the ABC local stations in fly-over country - day after day forced to carry the most negative, the most anti-American, pro-evil tyrant news coverage of any U.S. broadcasting network. This doesn't sit well with the viewers. They switch to CBS or NBC or perhaps even Fox News Channel to receive a more balanced presentation. Not surprisingly, ABC World News Tonight is the lowest rated evening news broadcast. The affiliates find themselves the victims of a very nasty April Fools prank!

Here is a sampling of the elitist phoney-baloney that ABC News has forced their affiliates to serve up to the public. With approximately two-thirds of U.S. citizens in support of President Bush and the ousting of Saddam Hussein, imagine having to try to sell this tripe to the public!

Peter Jennings favors dissent and problems when reporting on the war in Iraq:

"On World News Tonight this Saturday, more bombings in Baghdad. Trying to humiliate the regime. Some U.S. forces are halfway to Baghdad. Public enthusiasm from the mission commander...There is resistance on the battle field and there is objection in the streets." - World News Tonight, 03/22/2003

"On World News Tonight, the U.S. attacks all over Iraq, the drive on Baghdad is cautious. There is opposition and there is weather. The Iraqi leader is alive and on television. Who knows how well he is. The U.S. believes he is still in control. Two more Americans are captured, their helicopter shot down. So many others are coming back full of bullet holes. And the pictures of the POWs. So public now, such pain for the families." - Peter Jennings, World News Tonight, 03/24/2003

"For months the administration has predicted - or seemed to predict, to be fair - that cheering Iraqis would be greeting Americans in the streets and it doesn't appear to have happened so far. Maybe we just haven't seen it. What do you think has happened?"
"Five days into the war and with U.S. forces 50, 60 miles from Baghdad, there does not appear to be any apparent sign of chemical weapons. Again, does that surprise you? Was the intelligence perhaps not as good or is the timing too early?" - Jennings questions for Richard Perle, 03/24/2003

"On Sunday President Bush said that massive amounts of aid would begin arriving in country in 36 hours. It simply hasn't happened." - Peter Jennings, World News Tonight, 03/24/2003

Naturally, with this attitude at the anchor desk, the rest of the team follows along.

Richard Engel, ABC's freelance reporter in Baghdad, channeled Iraqi propaganda without a hint of disbelief: "Iraq's Foreign Minister told ABC News that the helicopter was shot down by a poor Iraqi farmer. Iraq says he did it with his own rifle." - World News Tonight, 03/24/2003

ABC White House correspondent Terry Moran: "But isn't it more than the mines? Obviously, the Iraqi regime has mined this harbor and that is a wicked thing to do but the coalition battle plan was to bypass Basra and leave the more than half million citizens there essentially to fend for themselves until we can get this aid flowing. It's not that we can't only get ships into Umm Qasr, it's that we didn't take Basra, which is now a scene of utter chaos and total unpredictability and there's no telling when aid will flow there. Does the administration take any responsibility for the plight of the people in Basra?" - Question for Press Secretary Ari Fleischer at the White House press briefing, 03/25/2003

"What happened to the flowers expected to be tossed the way of the Americans? Was it a terrible miscalculation?" - Diane Sawyer, Good Morning America, 03/25/2003

Because ABC News leans so far toward stressing the problems and the anti-American view and ignoring or minimizing successes, as well as providing very little discussion of the horrors the Iraqi people have faced under Saddam Hussein, they are not presenting a true picture of these historic events. And if we can't trust, why watch?

The Media Research Center has offered four sensible suggestions whereby ABC News could correct their course and provide a more balanced news product to American viewers. They are:

  1. Reporters should seek a balance of arguments and a balance of skepticism in covering both the United States and allies and international organizations.

  2. Untrustworthy enemy claims should not be given equal weight with the statements of American officials.

  3. The American people deserve a fuller picture of the 'peace' movement.

  4. The American people deserve a fuller picture of network polls.

Please join us in contacting your local ABC affiliate station - by phone, mail and/or email - and let them know how you feel about the biased news presentation of Peter Jennings and his fellow travelers. Urge them to press ABC News to make the changes listed above. The link below will help you find contact information for your local ABC affiliate.

Thank you very much Peacerose for the bump and the article.

I would just point out that ABC News has become the favorite news organization of DU. I would urge any freeper who chooses to come on here and defend this atorcious news organization to visit the CCRM and MRC web sites and look at the history of it before doing so. These people (ABC News) are not our friends, they are our enemies.

BTTT for CCRM!!!!!

I don't see anything there that has not been said on any other channel.

It is in part the presentation.

"On Sunday President Bush said that massive amounts of aid would begin arriving in country in 36 hours. (Jennings cocks his head, smirks) It simply hasn't happened."

Why tell them how to do better? When your enemy is trying to kill himself, don't get in his way.
