I think he meant there were only 17 left out of the division! No matter, we'll take care of them as well.

I thought the Arabs invented the "zero."

Then how come he left off so many of them when he published his numbers?

Shouldn't it read "17,000 killed and 35,000 wounded"?

I wonder how long it will take to finally eliminate the media's designation of Iraqi units as "ELITE or VAUNTED".

The description of the Iraqis as elite or vaunted does as much harm to those words as the rump rangers and carpet munchers are doing to the word GAY.

What he meant was that 17 members of his Division staff were killed and 35 others on his staff were wounded tripping over each other in a mad scramble to Baghdad.

This is the same reason that we gave up using the body count, it never seems to come out correctly.

It all depends on what the meaning of "destroyed" is.

It's really hard to count when all you have is a pink fog hanging over the area.

While the numbers may be wildly optomistic the strategy isn't.

The pattern of retreat and dispersal has been clearly established. Many of the individual enemy may have indeed retreated to Baghdad.

Substantial numbers of the army may have converted from an organized, mechanized force to small groups, of lightly armed irregulars laying in waite in the metroploital areas to create both US domestic and international political pressure on our US administration if old fashioned, had to hand combat and the destruction of Iraq's infrastruce is caused by asymetric, urban warfare.

I don't think the we are stupid enough to take the bait.

Shouldn't it read "17,000 killed and 35,000 wounded"?

No, I think it was supposed to read "Out of both divisions, we still have 17 soldiers who are nearly dead, with another 35 fully unharmed."
