An intelligence source says that United States Defence Secetary Donald Rumsfeld last week ordered the drawing up of contingency plans for a possible invasion of Syria, New York Newsday reported Thursday.

According to the newspaper's website, Undersecretary of Defence Douglas Ferth is working on a policy paper highlighting how the nation of Syria's support of terrorist groups is a threat to the region.

But the newspaper also reported that a senior Pentagon officer said he was unaware of any new planning involving Syria.

Secretary Rumsfled said Wednesday that Syria had allowed Iraqi regieme figures to enter the nation and provided Iraq with military technology.

If you read the article, you'll note the reporter drew a conclusion and then wrapped events around it.

Rummy sends a message to Assad. Reminds me of what my Dad used to tell me as a child when I was not doing exactly what he thought I should be doing. "Son, you better straighten up and fly right."

This begs an interesting question. Now that we have proven that we can almost surgically remove a despot, do we have a moral obligation to go after Castro, Chavez, Mugabe etc...and free their people who are being raped, tortured, improsened for life, and murdered? I realize that in some places like North Korea it may not be feasible. I don't think China would look to favorably on our being in their backyard again. But Castro could be removed in one week. Heck, I bet the special forces could take him in the middle of the night

You know, actually, with a few bulldozers and a little paint, As with Baghdad, Syria too could make a nice little resort...

If we do invade Syria and Lebanon and clean that mess up too, there will be a Palestenian state. Why? No more sources for weapons for the terrorists. They will be cleaned out and dead. Can't you just envision the Hezbollah with their backs against the Israeli border being pushed by the 4ID or IIMEF? Yassir Arafart crying on television for all the dead "fighters"? It's got so many positive outcomes it makes me all warm inside.

If the Syrians had half of a brain, they would turn over all Iraqis that have entered their "country" (read: sh*t hole)within the past 90 days, YESTERDAY!

Indeed.

However, Bashir al-Assad is not the shrewd --- -- - ----- that his father was. He may be as ruthless, but not as smart.

The operative word is contingency. There should be such plans for a host of possible scenarios, doesn't mean they'll ever be used.

Why don't we just call a spade a spade and have the 4th ID and the IDF perform a pincher-like invasion? Might as well at this stage.

Cool! Then the IDF can take out that nest of vipers in Lebanon on their way.

They did make the important "Final Four" of evil list, though. Throw in China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Burma, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Libya and you have the "Dirty Dozen" of evil.

If anyone would dig deep enough at DOD, you would find "CONTINGENCY" plans for invading Mexico and Canada. That is their job, to be prepared. That is why they are called contingency plans.
