Iraq's U.N. Ambassador Leaves His Post

UNITED NATIONS -- Iraq's U.N. Ambassador Mohammed Al-Douri, the first Iraqi official to concede defeat in the war, said he is leaving his post because he doesn't want to work under a U.S.-backed transitional government.

"I am leaving because I don't think there is a possibility for me to work as I want from a country that is militarily invading Iraq, destroying, ravaging and killing," Al-Douri told the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya satellite channel in an interviews broadcast Friday.

Al-Douri said pressure from the U.S. would stop him from working "with full freedom" at the U.N. He did not say what kind of pressure he would face.

Arab diplomats said Thursday that Al-Douri is headed for Baghdad. The Iraqi envoy told some diplomats he expected to leave Friday night to Paris, but that his plans weren't finalized and he might remain in New York for a few more days.

Arrest him now. Today. ASAP.

His statements he is leaving his post also negate any potential issues of diplomatic immunity.

If we do not take in to custody everyone working for the Hussein regime we are not serious.

This should be done today.

This guy's going to end up on the speakers circuit. Or (recall he's trained as a lawyer) he'll be a visiting professor at Berkley's law school.

Sounds like he's still working for Hussein. Arrest him now. Even paris is too good for him.

Where will he go? Does he have a green card? If he is no longer employed he should be sent back to Iraq. Let the Iraq take out the trash.

The Iraqi envoy told some diplomats he expected to leave Friday night to Paris...

Yep! No surprise here.

I agree - he should have been nabbed - at the very least for interrogation.

"Arab diplomats said Thursday that Al-Douri is headed for Baghdad." I doubt it.

from a country that is militarily invading Iraq, destroying, ravaging and killing,

Last I heard he said the game was over. Looks like he wants to keep playing. Fine. What happens if a legitimate target of opportunity surfaces in France?

Maybe he can get a talking head job on one of the major networks. I understand Baghdad Bob will be co-hosting with Katie Couric.
