THE END OF TELLING-IT-LIKE-IT-IS TALK RADIO IS NEAR (Barf alert)

(This article is from Feb 20, 2003)
Painter Pablo Picasso once said that in art, as in the dictionary, against comes before for. The current dismal state of conservative talk radio indicates that Picasso's words can be applied to politics as well.
It is useful to remember that the enormous growth of audience experienced by conservative talk radio occurred during the Clinton era. At the time, it was very easy to handle a conservative talk radio program: the only thing you needed to do was to criticize Clinton and his administration for the wrong decisions, corruption, scandals and foreign policy disasters.
But now there is a Republican administration in charge and, as Mary Starrett observed in her recent article, "Going...Going...Gone", the Limbaughs, Savages, Hannitys and O'reillys aren't speaking our language anymore, if they ever were.
During the initial months after W. Bush received the presidency, all criticism was directed at mistakes inherited from the Clinton administration. As the months passed by, and that argument ran out of steam, the main scapegoat was Clinton appointees still working for the Bush administration -- no explanation was ever given as to why the new president did not fire them. But lately, faced with the fact that only the most gullible are buying such arguments, our conservative talk radio hosts seem to be totally lost.
In a September, 2002, article, "Why liberals are not on talk radio," Neal Boortz mentioned as the main cause for this inability the fact that the most important component of talk radio is listener participation, and liberals could be incapable of facing adversarial callers.
According to Boortz, talk radio hosts cannot hit and run: they have to face feed back in the form of calls. Well, if you have listened lately to any of our conservative talk radio stars, you may have noticed that they are having trouble in handling callers who don't agree with the policies of Mr. Bush.
Our conservative talk radio hosts are rapidly becoming experts in the hit and run business.

They just don't get it.
In Gonzáles' view, "conservative" talk radio gets its orders from Bush, and it cannot deal with (disagreeing) callers' questions.

Nope. They never will.
They have such faith in their "beliefs" that they consider any challenge to them as a denial of their soul.
They will never get it.

It is useful to remember that the enormous growth of audience experienced by conservative talk radio occurred during the Clinton era Hmmm, I started to listen to Rush in late '89 or early '90. That was just after he went national after some period of time in Sacramento. Clinton came to the national limelight, along with his lies (it's the economy, stupid!), in what late '91 and not elected until '92. BY that time Rush was numero uno and Clinton was just begining to divide the country.
The guy who wrote the article does not know what he is talking about.

Hey ... this is not barf alert stuff. This kind of stuff always makes me smile. Its funny.
The author's cry here is one of desperate wishfulness: please, please, please let it be so ... and if it isn't so then let's put on blinders and pretend its so.
This kind of stuff is based on nothing but frustration, impotence, and insignificance.

If the liberals want to have any success on talk radio, all they have to do is give Baghdad Bob his own show. Nothing he'll say will be any more delusional than Al Franken or Alan Colmes, and millions will tune in just for the entertainment value.
That's the key to your success on talk radio, libs. The reason you don't succeed there is because you offer your insane ramblings with complete seriousness. But with the right approach, marketing your point of view as pure comedy and farce, there's no telling how far you can go.

I listen to talk radio a lot, and all the other conservative hosts I hear are quite regularly making mincemeat of their liberal call-ins without so much as breaking a sweat.

Hey, I'm fair. I tried tuning into
The Servando González Show.
It sucked.
Back to VRWC Radio, I suppose.

Point #1. Clinton's evil deeds and crimes provided endless talk material.
Point #2. Talk shows will thrive as long as the print/TV media is liberal.

Obviously, this guy does not listen to talk radio.
Isn't it written in the journalist's bible that they should have some minimal knowledge of their subject?

Disguised liberal love piece. Wah, wah, wah.
They don't like it, they are flustered as to what to do about, they can't compete with it and a liberal attention span doesn't allow for commercial breaks halfway thru a good argument.
My listening area has the dimwitted Randy Rhoades, liberal icon of West Palm Beach. She can shreik a frozen beer mug back into a molten slab of raw material, blame it on Pres. Bush, reference anything and everything back to Reagan and follows Rush on the same channel! What's all the fuss about? Rhoades gets all the Rush hold overs for at least the first 15 seconds of her program every single day! And that's twice as long as her dedicated listeners stay.

As expected, all of the "conservative" talk radio stars joined the thought police and condemned Lott's thought crime.. correct me if I'm wrong, but did he just totally make this up? If anything, they condemmed him for being a dummy.
who knows...
