Acid waste from the nearby Elizabeth copper mine was killing part of the Ompompanoosuc River, so the Environmental Protection Agency drafted a $15 million cleanup plan under the Superfund program. The EPA, however, provided no money for the work.

I post a lot of stuff from two of the paramount liebral news rags in California.
It is highly instructive of the propaganda used to wage war on "conservatives".
The Republicans must learn to deal with the messes thrust upon them by others and, all too often, brought on by themselves. Politics is a dirty business, after all.
Overhead = Lawyers.
Most of the Superfund dollars wind up in the pockets of lawyers.
Maybe we should declare Havard and Yale superfund sites. They have been oozing toxins for years.

OK, that is a rather shortsighted viewpoint.
I understand that American businesses complain that their offshore competitors do business with no semblance environmental responsibility. And therefor they operate with an initial advantage - which is why ANY 'FREE" TRADE AGREEMENTS should be predicated with stipulations as to environmental standards.
The EPA is far from perfect, but I refuse to believe that the means of production must foul the nest.
I am a fisherman, hiker, biker, camper and all around outdoorsy type - and I prefer catching fish out of the Connecticut that I can actually eat.
Imagine... what a novel idea.
