Robert Duvall is one of my favorite actors, because he's so good at what he does: acting. Too many of these Hollyweirdos skate by on minimal talent, good looks, and their 15 minutes of fame. Duvall works hard at his craft, and it shows. If you get the chance, check him out in "The Apostle", one of his best movies.

Didn't like "The Apostle" but loved "Tender Mercies" and "Lonsesome Dove"...
not to mention the recent "Gods and Generals".

He was also excellent in Colors, where he plays a cop on the LAPD anti-gang squad.

"They should keep their mouths shut," Duvall said. This son of a naval officer knows how to sum up a situation. He's only the best actor in Hollywood.
BTW, I did see "The Apostle". It's...ummm...different, but I liked it, and you can tell he liked playing the part. Two of my favorite characters of his are The Great Santini and Gus in Lonesome Dove. Couldn't sit through his portrayal of Stalin, though...or was it Lenin? Whatever...I couldn't sit through it. I somehow missed Gods and Generals in the theater, but I will buy it when it comes out on DVD. When I heard they were making Gettysburg into a movie I told everybody that Robert Duvall would be perfect for the part of Lee...and they ended up using Martin Sheen. To his credit, Sheen isn't a bad actor, he's just no Robert E. Lee.

A fantastic movie, not to be missed. He should have received two oscars for that film.

Yes, IMO Duvall is the best actor in the US. His performances as the sleazy journalist in 'The Natural' and the broken-down cowboy in a movie who's name escapes me (Something of the Heart?) are not his best-known but are priceless.
