Costas is trying to win over the Hollywood crowd that he moves in with this gesture. Until now he's been perceived as a conservative- "obviously" an "unsophisticated" sportscaster. By kowtowing to liberal sensibilities here, he's earned better treatment at the cocktail parties. Who knows, he might even be considered an "intellectual" now. Peer pressure exists at all stages in life. The kinds of pressure you get depends which company you keep: often that's dictated by your profession.
