A garden where patients at the Central Teaching Hospital for Children could once stroll is now a cemetery. Eric Seals, Detroit Free Press.
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The battle for Baghdad cost the lives of at least 1,101 Iraqi civilians, many of them women and children, according to records at the city's 19 largest hospitals.

Did anyone count how many were killed by Saddam to make the US look bad and how many were actually killed by US bombs gone astray?
I remember reading a few articles mentioning that Saddam's feddayeen shot civilians and blew them up, to make it look, as if Americans were doing it. Then there were their accidents, when missiles meant for US troops fell back on Baghdad in civilian areas.

I wouldn't be surprised. Remember that in the first Gulf War, Saddam ordered Iraqi soldiers to pull Kuwaiti babies out of incubators and then blamed it all on the U.S. Yeah, right!

Mercury News
Consider the source.
IIRC, this is the same Mercury News of San Jose, CA that created a year-long
imbroglio by writing articles saying that Republican Presidents and the CIA
imported drugs into the inner cities in order to destroy African-Americans.
(All this without noting how the large number of white Americans killed or blighted by
abuse of illicit drugs. I guess liberals would say that that was just acceptable
collateral damage in a campaign to kill African-Americans...right...)
IIRC, the editor(s) of the paper eventually said (my paraphrase) "wow, we did publish a big article that slimed a bunch of conservative
politicians and branches of government without much real evidence...never mind!"

One of the early articles about Iraqi civilian wounded/KIAs included
one reason some of these incidents occurred.
Suprisingly, the article which did have an agenda about the Evil Americans suprising
admitted that some of the profiled Iraqi civilians killed/injured...were riding
in a taxi to go to a relatives house...IN THE MIDDLE OF ONE OF THE BOMBING RAIDS
on Baghdad.
It's sad...but they assumed the risk.

That story was discounted because of the Kuwait spin..I know it's difficult to separate truth from fiction. I know the Americans can never be trusted according to some in the leftist ranks.I know we have not deliberately targeted innocents and some wounds were not inflicted by our soldiers. How many people were executed ,tortured and imprisoned by Saddam's party..hard to count.

They do mention that the death toll was "relatively low" which is true, except a better description might be "Incredibly low considering this was the largest bombing campaign ever launched in history, coupled with an invasion by hundreds of thousands of troops against a brutal, cowardly, amoral army with no compunction against killing their own civilians just to win the press war". I think I prefer the latter description, myself. How about you?

Wow, this is actually pretty good. I mean think about it, a hostile press, counting anyone in civilian clothes without military ID as a civilian, counting the ones killed by Iraqis as well as those we killed... and it's still less than 2,500. That's pretty impressive, in my opinion. I'm not saying these people's deaths don't count, but this is war, and more than this died in 3 hours on September 11th.

Actually, I think the incubator story was verified by the papers the Department of Defense released about 2 months ago.

Geeez, Saddam's regime killed more people in an afternoon then we did during the entire war.

I can believe it..they were looting everything. My reply was to someone who was obviously anti war, anti Bush, or anti American..or all three!

Ok, I'm not having any luck finding it with FR's search engine, and I apparently didn't bookmark it. Does anyone recall the article that (I could be wrong about this, but it's distinctly how I remember it) "Benedict" Peter Arnett released from an Iraqi hospital which indicated that MOST of the casualties were caused by SMALL-CALIBER weapons which are not issued to our military?
Did I dream about this? I could've sworn I read it here...

I believe it was Dr Bob Arnot on MSNBC. He was helping in the hospital and was a great embed.

The phrase "Bay Area" in the URL speaks volumes. Hell, I'm surprized that they actually admit that "The records make no effort to determine whether the dead were killed by American or Iraqi fire". Of course, they do go on as if they didn't even realize it.

Let's put this in a little different perspective.
Daily in the USA there are 125 auto deaths. More people died in the USA of auto accidents than died in Iraq from the war in the same time period.
Enough said.
Of course the real crime is how many of those deaths in the USA were caused by evil SUV's?
