Rock star Bob Seger gets a hug after his boat, Lightning, was listed as the provinsional winner.
MACKINAC ISLAND -- Bob Seger is known for his music, but his sailing accomplishments are beginning to gain acclaim.

I posted this story for a reason.
I spent a few days last week on a road trip. During the travels I was listening to the radio and heard a song by Bob Seger. I really enjoyed the tune and wondered to myself what became of Mr. Seger. There was no VH1 "Behind The Music" special, news, radio or anything. The dude seemed to simply drop off the face of the planet --despite putting out some excellent rock & roll music during the 1970's-80's.
So I stated wondering and out of curiosity, I looked him up on the internet. He has no webpage --just a few fan sites.
It seems that Mr. Seger made a whole hell of a lot of money, retired from his life on the road, and now spends his time sailing and playing golf. No VH1 drama to find.
And to him I say, "Good Job!"

When he wrote "I'm older now but still running against the wind" was he already a sailor or did that turn out to be prophetic? Just curious.

I also became curious about Bob a couple of months ago and did some searching on the web.
Seems that, in addition to golf, a big part of his life these days is spending time with his children. Kids do have a way of changing your perspective on what is important in life.

Out of all his music, I still like his first album the best. Featured tunes like, Two plus Two, Lucifer et al...
The Port Huron boat party the friday night before the race is usually a real good time. I have not gone in the past few years. Married life keeps you away from such things!

It just made me smile to know that he managed to avoid all of the rockstar pretentiosness and excesses and have a happy retirement.
and now I am LMAO at your quote!!!

I always liked his music and am happy he was smart enough to end up living well.
Too many artists destroy themselves by various unsavoury means.

Good luck to him. Yep!
Apparently, Michigan native son Kid Rock had a concert where Ted Nugent showed up. The two performrd "Old Time Rock and Roll." Seger attended as well and did nothing more than man the soundboards.
He ought to un-retire. I am sure he could still pack arenas and make hella-money with a "reunuion" tour!

Ahh! Mackinac Island What a wonderful place. Only spent the day there once but have great memories.

Seger is sure my all time favorite singer-songwriter. Thanks you for posting this to let us know what he's up to. I, too, have wondered about him. He had a great run and his songs still sound great. Bet he's made as much in royalties off "Like A Rock" Chevy Truck commericals than he did way back then! Those commercials have been going on for years now.

Detroit.
I caught Bob playing in a small bar in Detroit in the summer of 1971.
He probably made the most money by selling "Like a Rock" to Chevy.
To: Drew68
"Night Moves" is one of the best classic rock tunes of all time.
And "The Fire Inside" is another favorite of mine that you don't hear very much on the air.
Regarding Seger's low profile, I thought I heard a story on the radio within the last couple of years about a trip to rehab for him -- any clarification on this would be welcome.

Where is the Cobo anyway? Downtown Detroit.

One of the few good things to ever come out of Ann Arbor. Bob Seger's music.
