FRANK Quattrone's defenders claim that the obstruction of justice charges against the former star investment banker are pretty thin.

Until a court decides the matter, Quattrone is innocent.

But when Quattrone's defenders claim there was nothing wrong during the Internet bubble at Credit Suisse First Boston's technology group, which Quattrone ran like a personal fiefdom, they ignore reality.

The problem for Quattrne and others, liek Dennis Koz..is that the rules of the gme have changed...It used to be..steall $100 mil...get indicted...admit nothing, no wrong doing....pay a $10 mil fine...and accept being barred from the industry....big deal....there never was a chance of jail time...maybe a few months in a Club Fed..now..it's a whole different thing...they're looking at serious hard time....and major fines..and disgorgement under civil suits of whatever's left...plus, instead to defending them..their former firms are turning on the, in a sad attempt to save their own reputations....The real reason the lesser known perps are all caving, aside from hoping to cut a better tdeal for themselves...is that they're being told the cost of a criminal defense..tens of millions, and up front, if you please..and their assets are being frozen by the court....you can't use the proceeds of a bank heist to pay your lawyer to defend you....

Quattrone is being scapegoated by ambitious prosecutors, say his PRsters.

(Sniff), the poor, poor guy (sob).

Everybody knows it's a real minefield on the street what with gun-slinging prosecutors ambushing everything in sight.

How is a high-minded guy like Quattrone expected to do his job when all around him fraud, corruption and chicanery are taking place right under poor, guileless Frank's nose, for Pete's sake?

Heck, it's a downright miracle that (sniff) poor Frank (sob) escaped the street's numerous crooked dens of inequity unscathed (sniffle).
