Hong Kong (dpa) - A restaurant in western China has been ordered to shut down after being caught using old underpants as dish cloths, a news report said Monday.

Health inspectors swooped on the restaurant in Chengdu, Sichuan province, after getting a tip-off about the old underpants being used in the kitchens.

The inspectors ordered the restaurant to shut down temporarily while an investigation into its hygiene standards is conducted, the South China Morning Post reported.

I always use the three wise monkey strategy when I eat in China... hear no, see no, smell no. The food is so fressh and the dum sum lunches are incredible. A moment when ignorance is certainly bliss. :)

During my tour with the MFO in Sinai the mess hall ran out of paper napkins for 2 months even though they had an unlimited budget. I went to the PX and bought a 3 pack of women's cotten undies and started using them at each meal. The CSM threatened to court martial me but I pointed out that the PX didn't carry napkins, either.
Finally, a UH-1 was sent to north camp and returned with a year's supply of paper napkins.
