In Washington, California's Democratic senators support gridlock. They are engaged in a filibuster preventing a vote on President Bush's judicial picks they claim are right-wing ideologues. They want to force the Republican president to compromise with Senate Democrats on judges.

For 200 years, our democracy...

When will they ever get it right? How can we expect to enjoy the benefits of republican principles when we are told daily that our country is a "democracy"?It's no small wonder that these democratic ideas appeal to more nad more people.

Considering Tony Quinn is not exactly friendly to Republicans, it does come as something of a pleasant surprise. Anyway, the hypocrisy of liberals is interesting: when they're in the minority, they're quick to insist gridlock is needed to preserve checks and balances on rash actions by the majority to alter the status quo but when the tables are turned they regard any opposition to their plans as an annoyance that must be disposed of promptly. The Democrats should careful of what they wish for. If they eliminate the two-thirds vote on the budget, in the event the tables are turned on them, they lose leverage to block parts of the GOP agenda they don't like. But what else can you expect of a party that thinks about what's good for it today, never considering how that might change for the worse for its own interests in the future.
