ARCATA, California (AP) -- More than 100 cities and one state have passed resolutions condemning the USA Patriot Act, saying it gives the federal government too much snooping power. But in this liberal fold of Northern California's Redwood Curtain, a simple denouncement just doesn't go far enough.

With several DemocRATic candidates complaining that the Bush administration is losing the war on terrorism, it is certainly fair game to make Kerry, Dean, et al comment publicly on policies such as the Patriot Act -- do they endorse the actions of the various leftist municipalities that have passed resolutions against it? Just how would liberals have us actually defend this country???

I don't have a problem with liberal politicians upholding the Constitution....as uncommon as that might be.

- Plant a tree!
- Yell at a driver of an S.U.V.
- Love, baby, love.
- Set up very harsh anti-discrimination legislation.
- Increase taxes and give the proceeds to the poor.
- DEFANG THE MILITARY!
- Paint something nice, in watercolors.
- Vote Green!
- Ban aerosols.
- TAX THE RICH!
- Bathe less.
- Burn incense.

let's see they wont comply with an act that tries stop terrorist attacks
yet they will comply with a law that stops them from carrying or owning a firearm
to protect themselves and their loved ones?....

"I have a strong anti-authoritarian streak."
As did a certain group of rebels who pledged their "lives their fortunes and their sacred honours."

Such pretty country around that area.

Still, the notion of civic disobedience is drawing plenty of attention. And that's what it's all about, right there.
The Arcata City Council stands on Knee-Jerk Contraianism and bases nothing on principals.
Arcata is a pretty sick little town.

"Arcata's law is mostly symbolic, since federal law trumps any local ordinance." Then what gives the states or cities the power to govern the ownership of firearms when the Second Amendment trumps not only state and local laws and ordinances, it trumps any federal law to the contrary as well?
To: Lazamataz
1. Ban all guns in foreign countries.
...
12. TAX THE RICH To be a true liberal, #12 moves to #1 and the definition of "the Rich" is anyone who has chosen to have a lifestyle they can afford without Government assistance.

Chip implants would be pretty effective at stopping terrorist attacks. Recording everything everyone buys at the supermarket using their supermarket card would be pretty ineffective. I guess the PA is a bit of both those.
And, what's a "calf hippie town?" I've been to Arcata a few times, and yes, it's a quite pretty area, and yes, there are a few cows here and there, but...
