ICONOCLAST DAILY NOTEBOOK....

Bend It Like Clinton: Further Adventures With America's Washed-Up ex-President....

May 22, 2003: Bill Clinton is back bigger than ever, it seems, wandering the world and liberal college campuses pontificating on his superior legacy and the supposed infamy of the Bush administration. Commentator Norm Liebmann isn't happy:

One can hardly begin better than by saying Bill Clinton is, in every particular, a villainous sonofabitch. Repeating it should only be inhibited by the limitations of one's fundamental energy. The responses to that assertion are not terribly significant. Liberals will shake their heads negatively, conservatives will nod their heads affirmatively, and moderates will wobble their crania like those little bobble-head puppets that often keep watch out of the rear windows of migrant workers' family sedans.

In Bill Clinton, we speak of someone who has a black belt in lying, and who needs a pooper-scooper to collect his thoughts. Any political statement that passes his lips is like a zircon engagement ring -- gaudy, valueless, and by itself, legally non-binding.

Irrespective of Clinton's sniveling about his stamp on history, he knows critics cannot damage his reputation by dragging it through the mud, which is, after all, its natural element....

I think deviant, devious scum sums it up pretty well.

If Bill Clinton were a superhero, his name would be "The Stain."

I get the impression he doesn't like Bill.

Norman Liebmann is a former television writer [for Johnny Carson and Dean Martin; he wrote and produced "Chico and the Man" and created the characters for "The Munsters" (who are all named after his relatives)]

He invented John Kerry??!!

A pale offering when contrasted to a P.J. O'Rourke piece posted here yesterday.
We need the specifics, we need the examples; they need to be recited again and again so that all the people who were in denial during his presidency have no place to hide from the actual evidence.
You can't deal in generalities or abstracts with the deniers.

it's odd that after two years in office none of Dubya's friends have yet to have blown their brains out or killed themselves running off a road...I think there were dozens of FOB's dead by then...

And how many of W's cabinet members have creamed themselves (and a planeload of others) into the side of a mountain on a perfectly clear day?

Didn't see P.J.'s offering of yesterday. Couldn't find it in "search" either. Do you have the link?

When Bill Clinton said he'd never told any to "lie, not a single time," he meant that he told them "not to lie a single time, but to lie as often as necessary -- three, four, or forty times, if necessary."

You should post that entire article on this thread, in case it gets moved off that server. We'll have it here at FR.

Good catch.

Norman Liebmann is a former television writer

If I remember correctly, he also graced these FR pages once upon a time, under the name "FireHat".

This is a pretty good line from one of Liebmann's previous columns, found on firehat.com. This is among the memorabilia collected for display in the Clinton Xresidential Library:

The charred remains of a Bible that burst into flames when Clinton swore on it in front of a Grand Jury
