It's a testament to how much today's music sucks compared to the stuff back then.

Remarkably, the band's leader and guitarist, Jimmy Page (news), who compiled the releases, says he remembers all the concerts as if they were yesterday.

it is amazing how the mnd absorbs the details of a good performance. You could take any of the handful of great piano concerts I've been to in the past few years and walk through the score with me and I could tell you exactly what the performer was doing, most of the time. I have no idea why I retain such detail in those particular moments.

""To actually go through it bit by bit and hear sections of it, you go, 'Yeah, yeah, that's really good' or 'I played really well there' or 'My God, that's embarrassing, that bit I played then,"' Page, 58, said in an interview. "

I think every musician who ever hears a recording of themselves thinks the same thing!

He says he's working on something "quite surprising" but declined to go into detail.

Hopefully it's not a "Firm" reunion.

I wish I had back all the hours I wasted trying to figure out "The Rain Song" in standard tuning as a kid, until someone told me it was D-G-D-G-C-D.

Very cool sounding...

I missed them in 1977 when I had no $$$$$$ as a senior in high school.

In 1980 I beat the ticket selling procedure in Cleveland -- they announced the ticket sales at 3:30 -- you had to have a bank money order mailed to the Coliseum. I found a drive-through bank open until 4 (rare back then), got the money order, and dropped it off at the Richfield post office just after midnight (had to be postmarked after then). Next day, banks were deluged with Zep fans, but I had the inside track!

Then dude chokes on his own vomit ... at least they think it was his own vomit ... Scotland Yard doesn't dust for vomit you know.

My wife, on the other hand, saw them in 1969 ... she's a little older than me :) -- then she saw them in Philly when Phil Collins drummed for them.

I just put it on my Netflix rental list - it's not available. Currently, the movie has a "very long wait" time, which usually means they didn't buy enough copies for everyone who wanted it to get it.

On a side note, if you're still looking for a copy, I was at both Costco and Sam's Club today. They had plenty.

"It's all those years between then and now that I have trouble with," he adds.

The place to buy DVDs, with the best prices I've ever found, if you don't need it rightdamnnow! is here. If you're willing to wait a week or so, you can even get them shipped free, and no sales tax. Their price on the LedZep DVD is $17.99 - how's that stack up against what you're seeing? Even Costco is more than these guys virtually every time.

I've bought 4 copies of Standing in the Shadows of Motown there recently (it's $12.22 for a phenomenal 2-disc set!), and many dozens of others over the last year or so. Great deals.

You're welcome. Aintcha glad you're a FReeper now?

It's all because of that "We are Your Overlords" thingie around here.

Really...I think all kids still go thru a Zep faze....my 13 and 14 year old daughters still pick up my CDs of LZII or IV or HOTH when they feel like getting in a Zep state of mind....it has legs to be sure...like Floyd etc.

Given the many discussions talking about "who's the best" guitarist, let me put in my votes for Page (obviously - it's what drew me to this thread in the first place), Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Eddie Van Halen.

To whomever commented early about missing guitar solos in today's music, I wholeheartedly agree. A lost art for sure, at least in the mainstream "music" industry. Unlike the fresh and new musical days of Zep, Pink Floyd, Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody - now THAT was different!), today's music execs don't tolerate innovation anymore. If you don't fit the image of a street savvy singing/rapping/gyrating pimp or ho, you need not apply. Music is totally secondary to image.
